971.0. "Wedding Aniversaries - Four down and counting" by GIDDAY::WALES (David from Down-under) Wed Jan 31 1990 17:15

    G'Day,

Today is our fourth wedding aniversary (that long!). So far we
have both followed the idea of buying presents along the lines of the
standard list ie. presents made of a particular material for each year.
It can really make you think sometimes for an appropriate present.
Last year was easy. The third is leather so there was no problem
finding ideas for that one. This year is flowers/fruit. Now thatwas
easy for me, just send her an arrangement of flowers and then out to
dinner tonight. Now I'm not the sort of male that is really into
receiving flowers and I'm certainly no fruit eater so it was a little
more difficult for Ivy. She did it though. She bought me a video tape
called 'Burke's Backyard'. This is a spin-off from a TV program of the
same name. We are moving into a new house in about 3 months so the
gardeniong ideas will come in very handy. What a great idea - I would
    never have thought of it!

I have actaully seen two, one traditional and one modern. They
basically have the same things on them except for different years. We
have been using the traditional so far but I may swap for the seventh
as that is leather again on the modern list. How many people actually
go by these lists? What are some of the better ideas for some of the
materials that are supposed to be used??

    David.

971.2you get presents?TINCUP::KOLBEThe dilettante debutanteThu Feb 01 1990 18:395
RE:0 I didn't know anybody went by those lists. I've heard of them
but other than the 25th and 50th year celebrations I didn't know
they were actually used. But what would I know? In 15 years of
marriage my husband only remembered by birthday twice, something
like an anniversary present never crossed his mind. liesl

We don't go by the list either, but my husband always manages to get me
something special. Our first anniversary he had my wedding bouquet
replicated in silk - it was really a special gift.

Well, the first anniversary is paper. It's the only one that I
got a gift that matched the 'official list'. I was 8 months pregnant
and got a carton of disposable diapers (from my parents). Turned
    out to be tremendously useful.

I love these sorts of things -- could someone post a list or lists
    (traditional and/or modern)?

    Not married but interested anyway,
