962.0. "Anemia" by CURIE::TZELLAS (Set Def [Atlantic.City]) Thu Jan 25 1990 09:52

    I was wondering if anyone can answering some of my questions about
    anemia. I was just diagnosed as having Mylieofybrosis, a form
    of anemia. How the doctor explained it to me is that I have
    cells in my bone marrow that produce scar tissue. My bone
    marrow is full of scar tissue that it depletes the blood cells
    (white, red, and platelets) the blood cells are being produced
    but they are killing each other off.

    The Doctor mention that the course of action is a bone marrow
    transplant or hormone injections (which is a new drug that
    stimulates blood cells, not woman hormones like the pill provides).

    My questions is does anyone heard of mylieofybrosis? Has
    anyone ever had a bone marrow transplant and what is it like?
    I have had a bone marrow test. Does anyone know of these
    new drugs (hormones) they use to treat anemics?

    I know I should be asking my doctor, (the appointment is
    this afternoon) but I was just curious if anyone else has
    been through this?

    Thanks

    Kathi
