934.0. "Goodbye" by MOSAIC::IANNUZZO (Catherine T.) Mon Jan 08 1990 09:28

To everything there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under heaven.
				-Ecclesiastes 3:1

My season at Digital has been a long and mostly happy one, but like all
seasons, in time it must change. I will be leaving Digital on
January 19, 1990 to take a management position with small company in
Boston. The change will simplify my life, allowing me to live, work,
and attend graduate school within a few minutes of each other on the
MBTA.

More than anything, I think I will miss the diverse, stimulating,
loving, and infuriating electronic community of which I have felt such a
part. It is hard to leave, and although I go on to new things in my
life, it is not without regret. I have received much from all of you,
and I hope I have given something in return. Thanks for being a part of
my life.

The Goddess be with you all.

    Catherine,

I wish you all the best in your new job, and I'm sure you'll
be a fine manager. I feel very sad to see you leave Digital,
though. The notes you have written here and the work you have
done here at DEC have touched my life very deeply. I know that
you have inspired other women, too, to challenge their assumptions,
to ask hard questions, and to think about the politics of their
personal choices. You have risked a great deal in this file, and
you have shared a lot of your personal experiences -- inspiring
others of us to take some of those same risks. The women's community
at Digital is richer and safer because of you, Catherine. Thank
    you!

    Justine

It's wonderful that you're going into management because you'll bring
both intelligence and compassion to it, qualities always needed but
--as you know-- not always found.

You've contributed so much to us all, here and elsewhere, that it's
going to be very hard to think "Maybe Catherine will write something
about that"...and then remember that you're not here anymore.

I know that you thought long and hard about leaving, and that this job
is a great opportunity for you. I'm confident that you'll make a great
success of it, too, and I hope that you'll come back to us after you
    finish school.

Damn we're all going to miss you, gyn!

Twice in one note, Maggie has taken the words right out of my
    heart. Here:

> You've contributed so much to us all, here and elsewhere, that it's
> going to be very hard to think "Maybe Catherine will write something
> about that"...and then remember that you're not here anymore.

    And here:

> Damn we're all going to miss you, gyn!

Your words have repeatedly touched my life and strengthened my
understanding of people, not just women, and reminded me how much
compassion I must have in order to find a way to fight the good fight,
of a better world for all of us.

I wish you success in every place you go, every thing that you do, and
    every life that you touch.

    with heartfelt love and appreciation,

This is a serious loss for this file! I've told you before, Catherine,
you've been my number 1 inspiration. It's easy to say to someone
that their words will be missed but yours, Catherine, will be sorely
    missed! Your clear-headed, coolly-aimed logic shot point-blank
at the readers is a style that won't easily be found in another.

    Double damn.

But at least the world still has you. Kisk ass, kid! We'll all
benefit that Catherine T is giving them a run for their money
someplace! May you find the outlet you desire for all you are capable
    of.

I can only echo what Maggie said - It's really going to be hard

And then realize you won't be here to say it.I can't count the number

Catherine, from another who's been touched -- and taught and changed
-- by your words, thanks for the sharing you've done. Take comfort in
the knowledge that you HAVE made a difference.

Best of luck to you in your new challenge.

    Catherine,

    Words fail.

That is, mine do, when it comes to expressing the loss to =wn= that
your leaving represents. However, your words have succeeded marvelously
-- I'm sure they'll continue to do so!

Good luck, and I wish you'd write a book or something...

This conference has many writers who have been able to say things that I
really didn't like hearing -- but I learned from them anyways.

You have always been one of the best. Your notes have been infrequent,
but almost every one has seemed worthy of a hall-of-fame nomination.

Your going will be a loss to us.

Thank you again, everyone. I've just turned in my badge and will be
walking out of here soon. I'm going to miss you all. I won't be have
any kind of net address for a while, but sooner or later I plan to get
my new company on the internet. When I do, you'll be hearing from me.
Till then, farewell.
