912.0. "'The Womannotes Album - Volume I'" by GIDDAY::WALES (David from Down-under) Tue Dec 26 1989 18:45

    G'Day,

As most of you will have read in the Party note, I am after some
photos to see what the regulars of this file look like. I have been
talking with Bonnie Reinke via E-mail and she came up with the idea of
a =wn= album that could be sent just about anywhere. Bonnie tells me
that this has been done quite successfully by the Friends groups and
there should be no reason why we cannot get it going too. I'm sure
there are people in the dim-dark corners of the States, Europe etc that
can't make it to the parties as well as us Aussies so what do you
think? Are there many people out there who would like to see something
like this? The best idea would be to request the album for a period of
time (not too long) take a look at it and get a photo of yourself and
stick it in the album and send it on again. As long as everyone who
gets the album looks after it and doesn't damage, lose, censor or KEEP
it then this would be a great addition to the =wn= file.

I think Bonnie has volunteered to start this (she has asked me to
nag her about it) so it's over to her. It goes without saying that I
want to see it so let this be my formal request for 'The Womannotes Album
    - Volume I'.

    David.

    FYI -
You may have a few women, (like me), who are uncomfortable putting
their picture in an album. Part of the charm of NOTES is that one can
express what one thinks without the fear of being recognized and
laughed at in the hall. For instance, I would not have answered the
"Is Intelligence Sexy" questions in the same frank manner if I knew
that my face was being circulated.

But hey, it's a free world and if people want to pass pictures around,
then by all means do it. I just figured that you might want to
understand why everyone probably won't ask for the album.

I want to see it too!

Should we send in our nickels and dimes to get the photo
album and pay for shipping/postage and such?

Speaking from experience (I organized the travels of the FRIENDS
album for a while after proposing it) an album can be a really great
thing. I know that whenever I read something by someone who appeared
in the album, I think of their face and their words seem to hold more
    meaning.

I have some suggestions for the album if you start one.

    1. Have a hard and fast date for photo submission. We waited months
for people who were going to get their photos in "soon" for the
       FRIENDS album.

    2. Use DEC folks who are traveling on business whenever possible for
       getting the album around.

    3. Try to set up a distribution schedule for the album so that people
know when the album will be in their area. Only deviate from the
schedule if you can get it somewhere far away (Europe, Asia,
Australia, etc) cheaply because someone is traveling there. (The
FRIENDS album got to Japan for nothing courtesy of Hewlett Packard
when my father traveled there on business)

    4. Start putting together a network of couriers for the MA and NH area
to get the album around that area easily. I had one heck of a time
getting it to the various sites back there.

I hope this gets off the ground, I'd like to participate.

Get with the 90s: Feed the whole thing to an image scanner and make it
    available online.

    G'Day,

Glad somebody wrote something in this note so I didn't have to
    search for it.

Bonnie, if I recall you said something about the end of February??
Has anything started yet? Don't forget that two of the Aussie =wn='ers
(not me :-( ) will be over there next month and are hoping to bring the
    album back home with them.
