Beaudoir photography is pictures in lingere. There are a few
different classifications of it. Romantic which is kind of
victorian in essence. Glamour which is high polish type stuff.
Free Spirit which is what ever you want it to be basically.
I have looked at many photographers works who do this. Each
photographer is different. Some include partial nudity,
most include no nudity. The woman who is shooting my photos
likes to keep an air of respectability in her photos which
is what I want. I don't want them to look like shots out
of a smut magazine. Her pictures have a soft dreamy aspect
to them and none include nudity. In fact, she said that
the majority of the photos are taken fully clothed, but show
an aspect of the person which is not normally seen.
Regarding the fee. It depends on where you have the photos taken.
It can get quite expensive , but I shopped around and found
a great price for what I want to purchase.

| Hi Michele....
I did my photo-shoot over a year ago, but I found it to be a very
rewarding experience. I think it is wise that you shopped around,
because there are some photographers out there that can take advantage
of you financially, or otherwise. My photos were taken by a man,
who is a good friend of one of my girlfriends and at first I was
very uncomfortable, but as the session progressed I felt more relaxed
and enjoyed what was going on. I did it for "ME", not for a boyfriend,
or SO, just to give myself a lift....and it worked!! First he had
a makeup artist do my makeup, then we spent the next 5hours shooting
pictures. After we were done he had taken over 180 pictures...very
tiring, but fun. When the pictures came back I couldn't believe
they were me!! I know a couple other girlfriends that have done
it and they also had a good experience, so my advice to you is enjoy
it, and I'm sure your boyfriend will too!!

| I believe the correct spelling is "boudoir" photography. (Darn those
French folks, who taught them how to spell anyway?....)
I remember reading an article about boudoir photographers. A good one
will have a makeup artist, hairstylist and maybe even wardrobe
consultant to do a mini-makeover for the pictures and give the subject
confidence. If the photographer is male, some will have another woman
present to chaperone (probably makeup or hairstylist). Usually they
have 3-4 settings.

| Boudoir photography is an interesting phenomenon, and it brings a
a few questions to mind....
Do any of you see this as a perpetuation of a sexist image of women
in relationship to men? Or more as a "fun" item?
The reason I ask is that there doesn't seem to be a male equivalent
for women. Would any of the women here be interested in having their
male friends photographed in a boudoir style? And how would you
do it if you did?

The photographer who is going to take my photos does this part-time.
She was a professional photographer before having kids when she
put it on hold. She does not require me to sign anything, and I
will be receiving the negatives. But I will make sure there are
not any conditions involved.
Thanks for your concern!

re 11
Roger,
Many of the photographers I had talked to had indicated that many
woman wanted these same services available for men. And the majority
of the photographers said they were willing to do it. I think the
problem would be getting the guys to do it. I'm sure there are
alot of men out there who secretly would love to do it, but would
never take the chance. I know there are many women out there who
would love to have pictures of their guys.
In regards to the sexist attitude. I think in a way you are correct.
Society has yet to embrace this type of photography of men, yet
it is acceptable for women.
I just want to do it to have some fun. I don't see anything wrong
with it as long as the photos are professional and do not offend
me. I'm sure most folks would agree with me once they saw the photos.
My Mom was really upset with the idea when I told her, but I think
she feels they will be porn shots which they will absolutely not
be.

anyway? (Michelle, please don't take this personally as I have
no idea what you look like! And, I know Charles is cute, so I'm

| A local Worcester, MA rag has several photo shops advertising this
service. Part of the ad includes a "before" and "after" picture. Sort
of like the "before" and "after" of weight loss ads.
I have to admit that there was a striking difference between the before
and after shots, although how true-to-life they are I wouldn't know.
None of them simply had the woman in her underwear; it was much more
posing, makeup, and lighting than anything else. I can imagine lots of
guys who are not necessarily considered attractive who could come out
looking quite good. It depends on the pose and how natural it looks.
Of course, other guys would probably look just ridiculous. Just like
there might be some women where the whole situation looks too
contrived.

Lorna....
I think it is not the look that is important, but the
intimacy of the picture. The picture is taken with a certain
person in mind...the primping and such beforehand makes the
person feel really special and really important. And
feeling special is portrayed in that picture.....
And beauty is in the eye of the beholder....it's not the
picture so much as the thoughts and feelings behind it.

Right. Anyone who's ever seen a Woody Allen movie has seen
him in his underwear. I love the man's mind but considering
how he looks standing in droopy saggy boxers in front of the

| Regarding the idea of doing this type of photo shoot with men,
the thought that lept to mind first was something that Lorna
touched on.
The basic "set-up" of this type of photo (with women) seems to be
of the woman in lingerie. OK, so far so good. But there really
isn't any lind of "lingerie" for men. Well, maybe there is, and
I've just never come across it (I'm not into fashion as a rule).
So what happens here? Just shots of men in briefs or jockey shorts?
Or wearing their pajamas? Seems kind of silly to me, but then,
maybe it's just my perspective.

about "recreating" some famous portrait, with one's son as the "Blue

full set, costume, and makeup here, not those cardboard things you
stick your face through!)
This would, of course, require both tact and artistry on the part of

re .34 "what does it cost?"
I have no idea in any particular case - like most things associated with
professional photography it depends on circumstances.
A couple of times before I relocated back to Britain I did these sessions: an
old friend of my wife's works for a hairdresser in Nashua NH, and it happened
that the owner asked me to photograph a couple of sessions. It was a package
deal with a full hairdo, manicure and makeup session, and then a four hour photo
session. Two that we did that didn't include hiring costumes cost $250, and we
delivered 144 proofs and a 12 shot calendar of 14x11 prints. The third we hired
theatrical costumes and it cost $250 + costume hire (about $70 if I remember
correctly).

| Re, what men might wear if not lingerie...for a photo session;
I've been told right here in this conference (and, uh, elsewhere)
that biker shorts lend themselves well to making men appear 'sexy'.

Only, *only* if they have really nice butts. Form fitting spandex on
an average or below derriere only makes the situation worse.
BTW, I have seen the phrase "Hubba, hubba" in this file a lot lately, and
i can't help but smiling when I see it. Hubba, Hubba is the name of a
shop in Cambridge specializing in "Fetish...bondage...leather...latex...
punk...english shoes" (as it says on their business card.) Having not
heard that phrase for years, then recently going to the shop and shortly
after having the phrase pop up all over the place in this file...well,
it's good for a chuckle.

No kidding. Sometimes I see people who look rather silly in that stuff and
I wonder who they're kidding. (Not that I begrudge them the right to wear what
they want, so long as they don't begrudge me the right to be amused). :-)

D! - I think the phrase got a lot of press in the movie in "Parenthood"
as Steve Martin was teaching his son to say that as a cute female walked
by... (I think I remembered the scene)

Well, as was discussed earlier this summer (or was it last) there are good,
practical reasons to wear neoprene...like for bikers and such. I wouldn't
want to tell them they look silly for wearing what is most practical any
more than I would want someone telling me I look silly in my sweats and t
and the gym.
however, if they are wearing it for the purpose of looking sexly, then I have
the right to snicker if it doesn't "suit them". :-)
-1: Oh is that why the phrase has become so popular lately? Well, i didn't
see the movie, so I found it funny. (I suppose I would find it funny for
different reasons if I had seen the movie.) God, since I stopped watching
TV and going to movies I feel so *out of it*! Like I am some sort of social
leper or something! :-)

Hey gang!! I never said the red boxer shorts glowed in the
dark!! They're just red satin...
but if you *do* want glow in the dark well then you have to
settle for blue and white stripes.
