781.0. "A NOTERS' XMAS PARTY?????" by RUTLND::KUPTON (You can't get there from here) Thu Sep 07 1989 13:31

Having discussed this with co-mods and other notesfile moderators,
I'm placing this note in =wn= as well as other conferences.

I'd like to know if the population would like to have a NOTERS
Christmas Party? I spent a great deal of time calling local hotels
    etc. trying to get a date of 12/1, 12/2, 12/8, 12/9, 12/15, 12/16.
No luck. The only available date is December 22. That's the Friday
    before Christmas.

Hotels are willing to go to great lengths to get this date booked
by offering free table wine (usually $8.95 per person) and reduced
room rates ($55.00 Single or Double).

    	PLACE: LOWELL HILTON, Lowell, MA.

The evening would begin around 7:00 pm with cocktails and a
general gab session. Dinner would be served at 8:00 pm. Dancing
and a cash bar until midnight or 1:00 am. With a DJ providing the
    music.

I estimate that the cost of such an evening would be $22.50
per person if 200-250 people wanted to attend. There is a limit
    of 500 people.

Anyone interested? Please reply to me by mail RUTLND::KUPTON
or reply to this note. It's early enough that by saving $5.00 pp
per week, it won't hurt Xmas shopping.

Here's what is the meal will consist of:

    		    	Appetizer
                        ---------

Since not all noters are Christians, I think you would have a better
reception if you were to dub this a Holiday Party... but that probably
wouldn't make much of an impression either, since the 22nd (after
    sundown) is Hanukkah.

You beat me to it, Marge. In the past, we've done Seasonal
Celebrations at NIO in order to include all the diverse religious
and cultural events associated with winter.

I'd be up for it. Several of my outside friends would also
	like to come along.

I have no problem with the 22nd.

Myself and my spice. (Spice is the plural of spouse???)
Well she is my second, and spice rhymes with nice wheras
     spouse rhymes with louse.

    Mine is nice.

Because there has been so little response and so little time to come up
with money for a down payment, I have cancelled the Proposed party. Too
many people felt it was just too close to the holidays and would be travelling
home for prior to the party or on that Friday.

I want to thank the people who did respond both positively and
 negatively.

Plans are in the making for a Winter party across the net in February,
maybe for Valentine's Day either the 9/10 or 16/17.

	Ken

Yep, there is a net party in the works... Look for an announcment

    January....
