749.0. "Dinner for DougO - Sept 5 @ Amories" by SYSENG::BITTLE (Nancy Bittle - Hardware Engineer; LSEE 223-7653) Tue Aug 15 1989 23:29

Famous =wn=er, DougO (also known as Doug Olson, or SKYLRK::OLSON)
will soon be making a guest appearance in Maynard.

Let's welcome the Californian to the Northeast!!

where: Amories (across from the Mill on Main St)
	when : Tuesday, September 5.
               after work (5:00-?)

Please sign up here so I have a vague idea of how many places to
reserve at Amories, (also known as a popular location for Worldwide
POETS gatherings.)

[ Or, send me mail if you don't want to appear on the list
so as to not give DougO advance knowledge :-]

Well of course, I will be there!!!

I only did *one* 360 spin in my office chair upon learning DougO
was visiting the area, so you know I'm pretty calm about
the entire event.

Now Nancy calm down... after all the rest of us aren't in
a major case of 'in like' with DougO...even those of us who
met him on the March in Washington in April (hmmm, Marilyn?)

I will be there assuming no acts of the divinity or needs of
    my family intervene.

When I was a kid, there was a Camel cigarette logo that said "I'd
walk a mile for a Camel!"

Well, I don't think I want to *walk* to the Mill, but lord, lord,
I'd just love to come look at DougO smile.....M

OK, I can make it as long as Doug promises not to nearly yank my arm
out of the socket again. [I think I'm safe so long as I'm not in his
general vicinity when someone starts chanting 'Whadda we want? FREE
CHOICE! Whenda we wannit? NOW!!'...either that or it's The Cruel Shoes
    for some lift extra height...]

re .8- Oh, no, Ann J, say it isn't so! I promise, I promise!
re .7- OK, Jim, but you'll be outnumbered...
    re .6- Ann B, I'm upset, too...would I could meet you.
re .5- Hi Marilyn. You *may* coax a smile or two outta me...
re .4- Gale, who says you won't be flying at Amories? ;-)
re .3- Lorna, you sneak, who told you? "heh, heh" indeed. :-).
re .2- Bonnie, barring those exceptions, I'm looking forward to it!

And thanks, Nancy, for putting this together...[*hug*]. Although I
might have preferred to be described as 'notorious', 'famous' will do.

    (;-)!

    re .10, Amos, that's great!
re .11, Melissa, after hearing about you from Lorna's notes over the
past several years, I'd *love* to finally meet you. Sure, tag along,
(but you'll have to work out the 'restraint' issue with Nancy ;-)!
re .12, Eric, I can spot an ulterior motive from 3000 miles away!
    re .13, Dawn...you said it...I didn't!

Rumor has it ...

that a certain person signed up for this gathering ...

who also happens to be a co-mod ...

is celebrating her birthday the day after ... !!!

Maybe...we could...help her celebrate it the day before ?!?

If you have an inkling that you might be able to make it
Sept 5 (est 5pm-8pmish?), please send me mail or sign up
here so I can give Amory's a better estimate of space
needed. (well...for another reason also that I can't
    discuss here :-] heh heh)

Will try to reserve a few more spaces than sign-ups in case
    of spontaneous guest appearances...
    						nancy b.

p.s. Does anybody need directions to the Mill?
(Amory's is referred to by some in my group as
"that yuppie fern bar across the street"...it's literally
across the street (Main Street) down from the Maynard Post
           Office.)

Join us at the "Yuppie_Fern_Bar" :-) (Amory's in Maynard)
after work (5pm - 7:30ish) to welcome DougO to the east coast
    and to celebrate you-know-who's b-day!

Have had quite a few late sign-ups via email - right now there's
about 20 (+some maybes) planning on attending.

    This is gonna be fun!

Thanks to all that came to this most festive occasion last
week. DougO received quite a welcome to New England, while
Bonnie Reinke had a birthday celebration one day early!!
(though the cake wasn't a surprise, darn it! - Lorna, DougO,
and I were walking back from Paul's Bakery with her cake
when Bonnie walked right up to us!)

Good thing Amory's let us have the entire no-smoking
section! I was quite psyched to see so many surprise
            visitors.

From visual memory (in order of where people sat) -

                                John Bottoms

I must add my appreciation to all who attended; it was a wonderful
evening, and passed in a whirl of positive images, conversations,
reflections, and joy. Thanks, Nancy, for setting it all up; and thanks
to all of you marvelous people who came to Amory's that night.

I remember several discussions wherein I promised to send some material
on, but I can't remember exactly to whom or what! If anyone remembers
my indication that I wanted to send you parts of a discussion on the
Indigo Girls, (Ann J? Liz?), tell me! Anyone else, if I said I'd send
you something, please refresh my memory...it was a long trip.
