    To all the Note 183 writers:
    To 183 Noters:  Please give me your feedback                         
    
    You've probably heard that a large delegation will be marching 
    Sunday as "Women of Note" who correspond with each other all 
    over the world by computer.  
    
    I'm going on the march on Sunday.  I suspect it will make an 
    impression, to say the least.
    
    I'd like to see us follow up the march with a mailing campaign 
    to Supreme Court and Congress.
    
    As I read the 183 Notes file, I've "met" a group of rational, 
    thoughtful people who debated the issue of abortion and 
    for many individual reasons, decided that choice the wisest position
    they could take.
      
    
    It occurred to me that, with proper safeguard for privacy, a 
    selection of these notes would be informative to the decision-
    makers.  That is, pro-choice people aren't a bunch of fanatical
    rabble-rousers, nor are we organized by some "outside" group.
    
    The people who write here are *individuals* who speak thoughtfully
    and rationally.  And we represent many people who approach this
    issue the same way.  
    
    Unfortunately, we haven't been heard from.  While the anti-abortion
    forces buttonhole congress members and threatten political extinction
    to pro-choice advocates, we have, by and large, been silent (till
    Sunday).
    
    With your permission, I'd like to select some notes, format them
    in DOCUMENT, and send them to the decision-makers as examples of
    how the rational population thinks and talks about this issue.
    After all, we vote, too.
    
    Needless to say, Digital won't be mentioned.  Rather, this is a
    group of people who "communicate by computer."  
    
    How do people feel about an idea like this?
    
    Perhaps you can answer in one of the following ways:
    
    -	I'd be willing to have you quote me (first name only)
                                                        
    -   The idea might work, but don't quote me, please!
    
    -   The idea might backfire on the company.
    
    -   Other

    I suspect you're right.  I guess the best thing is for Noters to
    write their own letters!    But let me read the moderator's conference.

    the moderator's conference is a restricted conference.  You must
    get in touch with the moderator to do that (perhaps another co-mod
    can best direct you).
    
    As for extraction of notes and submittal to official people, I would
    suggest that
    
    a) you mention nothing about the company, you can merely say this
    was a topic on a special-interest bulletin board used by professionals.
    
    b) you extract only from those who expressly acquiesce to you in
    writing that you may.
    
    c) you remove all names.

    I agree that no notes should be used without the express permission
    of the author.
    
    Ann, you must also remove the nodenames in all cases!  DEC would
    get *very* upset if there were any way to identify (a) the corporation
    or (b) nodes on the network.
    
    Having said that, you can use mine too if you like (hmmm..did I
    actually write any?).

    Assurances that I'll use first names only, no nodes.  No company
    name.  We're "people who correspond by computer."  
    
    I won't be doing anything for a week or so.  I want to give people
    time to reply -- and especially to get any negative feedback.  
    I'd hate for anything to backfire on persons or Digital.

    I've no objection to you using any of my notes.  However, since we're
    noting on the Easynet, Digital probably (technically) owns the notes
    we've written, so maybe you should be careful about sending them
    anywhere.  Any guidance from the co-mods on this? 

Up to now I've replied 12 times in the abortion topic.  Some of my replies
seem a bit irrelevant from a letter writing point of view (e.g., I provided
NARAL's address and phone number in one reply).  But if you think any of mine
would be of use you may use them as you wish (although I'd appreciate deletion
of the names of other noters that I may have referenced).

    	note now.  My apologies for my tardiness.  However, should
    	the need arise again (and I'm fairly certain it will), you
    	may feel free to use any text I have authored if you feel
    	it will advance the pro-choice movement.
