530.0. "enough visualizing-we want pictures..." by CSC32::SPARROW (Oh, I MYTHed again!) Tue Apr 04 1989 18:47

    Recently, a couple of colorado noters were discussing how much we
    would like to know what other noters look like since we are rather
    far away from noters-ville.

    so I volunteered a wall of my office for an official gallery and
    am asking for photos of fellow noters from anywhere.
    if ya'll would like to help us out, send me photos to my mail-stop
    cx03-2I-13, or 305 Rockrimmon Blvd, Colorado Springs CO 80919
    same mailstop.

530.1Southern California WallMORO::NEWELL_JOReplies, they don't come easyTue Apr 04 1989 20:058
    I'd be happy to start a 'wall' in Southern California.
    I don't know how many noters we have out here, but if
    they knew they could drop by to see the 'wall', we"d
    probably find out we have more than we thought.

530.3A Photo Opportunity?ULTRA::WITTENBERGSecure Systems for Insecure PeopleWed Apr 05 1989 11:045
    Can someone bring a camera to the party next weekend? If so, we
    could send some of the pictures off to the ends of the earth, as
    requested.

530.4mama, take that kodachrome away...LEZAH::BOBBITTinvictus maneoWed Apr 05 1989 11:337
    I for one don't particularly like to have my picture took. I'm
    not shy about noting or phoning or e-mailing, but I have this aversion
    to photographs. So if you bring a camera, expect me to duck behind
    potted palms or other noters.

    Has anyone ever seen notes written by one Eric Osman? He's got
    his noting_name field set to a file spec and if you type it out,
    you get to see his picture. I love it.

530.7Not very photogenic here...CADSYS::RICHARDSONWed Apr 05 1989 17:3410
    re .5 Eric Osman ("Oz") is *much* better looking than his on-line
    picture.

    Come to think of it, I'm not so sure I want you all to know what *I*
    look like, either...I fall more into the "built like a brick outhouse"
    category than the "glamorous" category. How about a picture of one of
    my cats?? (Now, *they* are glamorous! At least, they think they
    are...)

530.8Who *is* that bald, furry guy anyway?WAYLAY::GORDONSorrow floats. So does love...Wed Apr 05 1989 18:395
	Well, if we get decent B&W photos, I volunteer to run them through
our scanner so we can put a bunch of them on-line. I'll even offer a bit of
my disk space to store images.

530.9A Bit Far To Go ...GIDDAY::WALESDavid from Down-underWed Apr 05 1989 22:0713
    G'Day,

    	Re: .8

    	What a great idea! Being in Australia, it's a bit far (read
    expensive) to attend the =WN= parties so scanned photos sound good.
    What format will they be in? Unfortunately the only way I have
    to display pictures is on IBM PC. Therefore the pics would need
    to be in .GIF or .PCX format. Hope this is possible.

    David.

530.10nothing like touchup here and thereELMST::MACKINQuestion RealityThu Apr 06 1989 09:345
    Of course, if we do this correctly one can get the images into DECpaint
    and can be touched up as desired ;^). Hell, I could even say I'm
    6' 4".

530.11Compound Documents, that's the ticket!VIA::BAZEMOREBarbara b.Thu Apr 06 1989 13:424
    If you put the scanned images into DDIF format you can mail them
    around, twiddle them with paint, view them on a DECwindows workstation,
    convert 'em to PostScript and print them out! Ain't high-tech
    fun?

    re CDA a hot ticket:

    So eveyone sez, so who volunteers to scan photos into
    DDIF? Does it work on Ultrix?
530.13ULTRIX V3.0 has CDA built inVIA::BAZEMOREBarbara b.Fri Apr 21 1989 14:017
    re .12

    Unfortunately, I don't have access to a scanner so I can't scan
    photos.

    CDA documents, including those with images can be mailed to,
    or created and edited on VMS and ULTRIX systems.

And paint them on your root window your your pause window...

just think.. you could have them image of X as your screen
background as you 'discuss' matters with them

(for details (of how to paint to the root or pause window...not how
to scan photos) either Mail or see note 158.* in the DECwindows conf.. Kp7 etc)
530.15terminal support......PH4VAX::MCBRIDEPikes Peak or Bust!!!Sat May 20 1989 16:563
    Gee. Great! And now if I can just find a place in DEC tat has
    enough money to get me a terminal that will be supported....
