Note 43.0 1st Annual Midwest Bash - 4/6/89
MEIS::LEATHERBERRY 86 lines 22-MAR-1989
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hear ye, Hear ye, Hear ye, Oh Midwesterners In Exile
The first annual Midwest Bash is hereby announced.
*********************************************************
* *
* Thursday, April 6, 1989, beginning at 5:00 p.m. *
* At Bainbridges, in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts *
* in the Upstairs bar *
* (Directions at end of message) *
*********************************************************
All Midwesterners in exile, who are living on the East Coast
and missing some or many things about life on the western side
of the mountains, are invited.
If you are a DECie who knows how to stretch a vowel and can
distinguish Ohio from Iowa from Illinois from Kentucky,
you're invited. DECies who fit this category can also bring
their husbands, wives, SOs, and friends who are from the
great prairies (or at least properly respect those who are).
THE PURPOSE?
To associate with each other for awhile, say Hi, swap stories on
culture shock, discuss the Chicago Bears, recount your adventures
on Route 66 or I55, or whatever you like to hold forth on.
DRESS?
Casual but proper. Shirt. Slacks. Skirt.
Whatever you're comfortable with.
Can you wear shirts with magic titles such as U of I, U of O,
NIU, SIU, Bears, Cubs, Soxs, and Blackhawks? Ah.... Yes and No.
Yes, if the shirt is not too flamboyant.
No, if it is flamboyant and has athletes with teeth
or some other wild cartoon.
The manager of Bainbridges says they "discourage" jeans and
sneakers. But when he heard who we were and why we were coming,
and that we would be in the upstairs bar, he said their no jeans
or sneakers policy has some latitude. As long as you come across
as a fairly clean, tasteful citizen, life should be swell.
The manager also says the bar is not too crowded at this time, so
we will have most of it to ourselves for the first hour or so.
DIRECTIONS:
Bainbridges' at the Mill
75 Princeton Street (Route 3A)
North Chelmsford (508-251-8670)
1. Take Route 495 or Route 128 to Route 3 North.
2. Take Route 3 North to Exit 32.
(about 10 minutes from Rt 128, 5 minutes from Rt 495)
3. Get off Route 3 at Exit 32, Drum Hill Rotary. Go part way
around the rotary and pick up Route 4 North (the second spoke).
4. Follow Route 4 North until the first stop light (about 1 mile)
(Note: At this stop light, the road veers slightly left.)
5. Go 1/4 mile and you will see Bainbridge's on the left.
(Actually, you will see a sign saying "The Mill" on the
left, four or five red-brick buildings, and a seven-story
chimney. Bainbridges' is in this set of buildings.
To park conveniently, enter the parking log, go under the
"tunnel" and part in this parking lot. Bainbridges
has its entrance off this parking lot.
AND ONE MORE THING:
If you plan to come, feel free to reply to this note so folks
will know who to look for.
FYI: If case you have received this announcement in MAIL or by
some other means, you can get more info (or announce you are
coming) by reading:
PSG::CHITOWN notes conference, Note 43.*

Note: Bainbridges opens the Upstairs bar at 5:00. A band starts
playing at 8:30. You can stay and dance, adjourn to dinner in
the restaurant or the downstairs bar, or go home.
