467.0. "Bachelorette party ideas anyone?" by LEZAH::SCANLON (I was so much older then...) Fri Feb 24 1989 09:22

	Hi there!

I'm hosting a bachelorette party for a friend in the next few
weeks, and am looking for suggestions about what to do. We are
thinking of making it a lingere party, but I'm really not sure how
to set something like that up. Do I just call my favorite lingere
shop? Or is there another way to go about it? I'm sure someone
must have done this before, so any pointers would be helpful.

Also, if you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
The one restriction is that I'm trying to keep this rather tame,
as I don't know several of the women who will attend.

And moderators, I did look, but if there is another note where this
	is discussed, let me know!

	Thanks for your help!

	Take care,
	Tara

I don't think I completely understand what you're referring to as
a Bachelorette party. Is this a bunch of single women getting together
to have a party or is it like a Bachelor party as in it's for one
    woman before her wedding night?

I believe there's a co. called Undercover Wear, who, I'm sure, would
be willing to host a lingerie party, and you could probably have
the proceeds/free lingerie go to the "guest bachelorette".

Since you're not sure of the audience, it's wise to keep it tame,
    i.e., no male strippers.

A suggestion would be to also rent a light video to show, i.e. a
comedy, Blind Date, or a mushed up love story like "Officer and
a Gentlemen", or "Purple Hearts", or "Somewhere In Time".

I would ask the guests to each bring a dish, and you could supply
    the drinks/punch and dessert.

Marital Joke Gifts would be fun to bring for the guest of honor,
and that's about all I can come up with for now.

    Hope this helps.

The best bachelorette party I've been to was held at a
lingerie store after closing (6pm or so). We all pitched in
the $$$ we would have spent on the bachelorette and she got
to pick anything out in the store that she wanted to. To
make it even nicer, the owner gave the rest of us a 20%
discount, so we could get something nice, too! The lingerie
store also had a beauty salon attached, so the bachelorette
spent the money she had left on getting a makeover and
	 getting her nails done.

Everyone brought a plate of snacks (veggies, finger
sandwiches, etc) and we had punch.

Everyone had a WONDERFUL time! 8^)

When I think of BACHELORETTE party I think of something a little
    more fun!

I had one 6 months ago, as I got married this summer. My sister-in-law
to be had a bunch of girlfriends over to her house for appetizers
and drinks. They had an obscene cake for me (which you can have
especially made at Boston Bakery in Lynn MASS) and I opened joke
gifts, such as lingerie, 1001 ways to have sex, etc... It was all
in good fun - my mother-in-law to be even attended. The only
embarassing part, was around midnight a male stripper did show up
thank GOD I had a few drinks and my mother-in-law had already left.

I thoroughly enjoyed the party, but think they could have skipped
the male stripper. I think the other girls enjoyed him more than
    I did.

    Enjoy!!
467.5UW parties can be fun...WMOIS::E_FINKELSENSet def [.friday_pm]Wed Mar 01 1989 11:0216
I've been to several Undercover Wear parties. They were real popular in my
"circle" around the time I was getting married. They can be fun if you have a
few roudies with you. I was usually the roudy one who would try on everything,
when everyone else was too shy, and would give a fashion show. It was fun. The
best part is, they come to your home. You could also have someone come and do
color analysis and manicures.(but that is for tame crowds)

I wouldn't go for a movie for a large crowd because everyone's tastes differ.
What you could do is (if it wasn't the night before but maybe a week before) is
have the Undercover Wear party, then invite about 5 close friends to stay and
spend the night, watch a good movie and talk.

We gave one of my friends a party and we had people bring joke marriage gifts
with them. One girl was a riot. She made her own recipe book for my friend.
The first recipe was "how to boil water". And she gave detailed instructions!
It was funny.

Paaarrrrtttyy!!! My Bacholorette party was sooo much fun! I did
something that I have not done in years, that is gone dancing with
the girls! Yeah we went to a dance club in Worcester (a very tasteful
one) and danced the night away, and just let go!!!!
