444.0. "Studio Red Top: Support for Women Musicians" by 2EASY::PIKET () Mon Feb 13 1989 15:58

I received the following in the mail from Studio Red Top and thought
it might be of interest in this file:

STUDIO RED TOP, INC.
A Resource Center for Jazz Women and Men
P.O. Box 6004 BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02209
(617) 397-8311

Thank you for your recent inquiry about Studio Red Top.

Studio Red Top is a Boston-based nonprofit corporation,
organized to promote appreciation of jazz music and to improve employment
for women musicians. Over the past 10 years, Studio Red Top has
produced more than 300 concerts, jam sessions, radio and video
broadcasts, and other activities which highlight the contributions of
women musicians, affirming their active efforts to shape jazz past,
present, and to come.

Both in our own loft (1978-80) and concert theater (1980-82),
and in rental halls throughtout the Boston metropolitan area and
eastern Massachusetts, Studio Red Top productions have employed hundreds
of musicians and composers of many cultural backgrounds and both sexes.
We also provide assistance to musicians and others by acting as a
clearinghouse for job referrals, housing an archive of materials
related to women's impact on music history, and providing free advice
on promotion, marketing, and fundraising.

The Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities has
recognized Studio Red Top as a leader enriching the cultural life of
the Commonwealth. The Council respects Studio Red Top's unwavering
commitment to producing the many talented players of this region in a
context that respects their abilities.

Because of the constantly escalating costs of concert production,
and our commitment to maintaining ticket prices at an affordable level,
Studio Red Top has recently begun a campaign to raise additional
operating funds to match those granted to us by the state and local arts
councils. Your donations to Studio Red Top are tax-deductible. To join
our mailing list, we ask for a $5 donation, payable to Studio Red Top, Inc.,
and sent to us at the above address. Donations in any amount are welcome.

We are also offering for sale a 90-minute cassette tape, STUDIO RED TOP
PRESENTS HIGHLIGHTS, 1987-1988. This tape was digitally recorded live at
Studio Red Top productions over our last concert season, and emphasizes
original works by some of the finest musicians currently performing in the
Boston area. The tape was broadcast in its entirety on January 9, 1989
over WGBH-FM, during Eric Jackson's "Eric in the Evening" show. To receive
a copy of this tape, please send $10 plus $2 for postage and handling, to us,
at the above address. Please specify _narrated_ or _music-only_ format,
with your request. Sorry, but the cost of the tape is not tax-deductible,
according to current IRS regulations, but donors of $50 or more will receive
a copy of the tape as a premium.

Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to seeing you
at a future production.

Yours sincerely,

Cathy A. Lee
