| The recent pro-choice march on Washington has combined with the closing of the
abortion topic here to reanimate the abortion discussion in Soapbox. The
main discussion is going on in note 54 (after having spun itself off from the
now closed note 476). There are also related discussions in 478 (about the
march itself) and 482 (about men's responsibilities for pregnancy). There
are some men who are carrying the pro-choice banner rather eloquently in
that conference (as well as some of the opposite persuasion).
Those of you who might wish to participate in those discussions can find
Soapbox at PEAR::SOAPBOX (typing SELECT or hitting KP7 will add it to your
conference notebook if you don't already read it). As always, the usual
Soapbox caution applies: the style of noting there is quite different from
that in Womannotes. In particular, some noters are prone to use harsh
language at times (including name calling), although outright harassment
is prohibited. On the plus side, there has been a good deal of eloquent stuff
written as well. If you are not sure whether that discussion is for you, I'd
suggest reading a good bit before you try writing anything.

Thanks for the pointer, Dick.
After taking a look at the latest treatment of this issue 'Box-style,
I notice that they're having a lot of the same difficulties
with the subject there that we've seen here (i.e., replies deleted,
a topic write-locked, moderator intervention a bit more obvious
than usual, etc.)
One thing I've noticed (about Soapbox) is that although the
general population of the conference still tends to be more
on the conservative side, there has gradually been a very noticeable
increase in the number of 'Boxers (both male and female) who are
willing to put up **very** strong arguments in favor of women's rights.
As you mentioned, Dick, some of the notes have been quite eloquently
written, even though most of the ground continues to be somewhat
over-traveled.
Thanks again for the pointer.
