I'll give it another shot. I tried writing goodbye yesterday and the note blew up on me. Basically I just wanted to let everyone know that my last day at DEC will be next Tuesday, 7 Feb. I head for TX by way of Baltimore, Cincinati and Oklahoma City on the 11th. I'll be going to Goodfellow Technical and Training Center in San Angleo, TX. It's considered West TX and the base's 2 claims to fame are that it holds the largest 4th of July fireworks display in West TX (my family wanted to know if there were any other fireworks displays in West TX) and it hosts the annual Tri-Military Chilli cookoff every year. Excitement abounds in my life. I'll be living off base somewhere because the base is still building officers' quarters so if anyone happens to wander through San Angelo between now and the end of August, look me up and I'll give you a tour of the base except for my classroom building which is surrounded by 10ft of electric fence and patrolled by a bunch of trigger-happy 18 year olds with rifles. I have a friend who started class in October which is why I have all of this fascinating information. I also wanted to thank everyone in the community for a very interesting 9 months. I may not have written very much but that's because I really don't have an adequate frame of reference for many of the topics that are discussed. I've learned much, though, from those who have more experience than I and I'm sure that what I've learned will stand me in good stead as I start my career in the service of our country and its ideals. For all of you out there, I leave you with the wish that you may all know what it is that you want and need in order to achieve happiness and that you are able to achieve these things. To be happy is to truly be successful. Thank you all. GO IRISH! Rachel

Just when you're needed the most. Before you go could you straiten up this issue of enlistment/draft policies for men and women. Seems that some feel there is some discrimination going on. Besides who left is going to root for Notre Dame??? The best of luck to you in your enlistment and everywhere else. Adios for now, amigo. And best wishes for the future; perhaps one day we'll be hearing from (or about) General McCaffrey. . . Steve

You realise that we expect you to make Captain in time for the file's fifth anniversary, and to come back in uniform for the party? It only gives you a little over 2 years y'know, so make First early. Do take care, and don't forget us. in Sisterhood, =maggie
