407.0. "Hair Stylist-Chelm/Westford" by DEGABA::AMSBURY () Fri Jan 20 1989 13:53

Can anyone recommend a good hair stylist in the CHELMSFORD/WESTFORD area?
I'm looking for someone who, when asked to take 1/2 inch off, only takes
1/2 inch! __and also for someone who does good perms.

Many thanks__

She may give suggestions, but always cuts only what I tell her.
And she's very concerned about the condition of hair, so perms,
coloring, whatever are always done with that in mind.

I'll be there this Thursday, as a matter of fact, for a trim.

I went to them ONCE. I had an appointment with Kristen herself. She kept me
waiting an hour while she tried to decide how she wanted her yellow pages ad to
look. I would have left if I didn't need a cut so badly or if I had had time to
go somewhere else. Then she kept going off and doing other things in between
snips! I didn't care for the results either.

Another place I went to that was a horror was "Just Hair" on Stevens St in
Lowell. It took the girl 45 minutes to give me a TRIM! And I had to wait until
she spent that long on my sister first. I told my sister we didn't have time to
wait another 45 minutes while she did my hair, but my sister talked me into it
because we were already there. The cut didn't come out bad or anything, but it
wasn't anything special considering how long it took.

So, even though it is a 40 minute drive, I still go to my hairdresser of 10 or
more years. There I don't wait more than 15 minutes (if I'm early) or 5 (if I'm
on time) and the cut itself only takes 10 minutes.

I'm afraid to try new hairdressers. Just think what they can do!

Try Billerica Mall's Garden of Eden. Ask for Stephanie. My roommate,
who is local to this area, has been going to her for years. She
is quite good. In fact, I'm going there in an hour for a trim.
Stephanie will determine whether your hair needs a perm or a cut,
    etc.

I really like "HairDesigns" on Rt 110 in Chelmsford. I can't speak
for all that work there but Lee has always done a great job with
my hair. I've been growing mine out and I always hates spending
$20 bucks just to get a trim of the top done. At this place they'll
do a top only haircut and charge alot less. But anyways, if interested
    the # is 256-4150/4152.

Since this is a "hairdresser" topic, I was wondering if anyone
knows of a good place to go in the Cambridge/Belmont/Watertown
area? I am always afraid of trying someone new, but I just moved
to this area and don't know a soul.

    Thanks,

I go to the Advantage in Harvard Square. They are a little on the
high side, although not as high as some (around $23 for a cut),
but I always get a great cut and it grows in really well so I don't
    have to go that often.

    Ask for Ed or Paul.

BTW, FWIW, I have curly hair. (Some people think curly hair looks
good no matter what you do to it, but it's been my experience that
a lot of hairdressers don't have a good curly-hair "esthetic".)

I have a great deal! The hairdresser I use comes to me! Seriously,
she is just getting started, and her ultimate goal is to work
with the shut-ins and people who find it difficult to get to a beauty
shop. She lives in Westford, MA, and will travel to any of the nearby
towns. Her prices are reasonable, and we just have fun chatting
too. I, for one, am much more relaxed than in the shop atmosphere.

Also, she is the only hairdresser I've ever had who cuts my hair
*exactly* the way *I* want. Though I've learned already to trust
her judgement - she has convinced both of my daughters to try
completely different hairstyles, and they look great.

For those of you who might like to talk to her, her name is Darlene
Fischette, and her phone number is (508)692-4448.

Roberta, is one of them the bald one? I was disconcerted the first time
I saw this totally bald (shaved head?) young man cutting someone's hair.
(Maybe I'm prejudiced in some way, but, if he really *liked* hair ...)
I finally decided there could be a medical reason and I shouldn't
be so judgmental.

I've been having Yvonne at Advantage cut my hair for over a year now.
She is one of the few hairdressers I've found that will trim long hair
to exactly the length you want it.

I used to go to a place in Belmont near the cinema on Trappelo Rd.
(sp?) I think the name is Clippings. The guy that owned the shop did a
great job on short hair, but when I wanted to grow it out, he kept saying
it was too long. He had a nice policy on tipping: he said he'd prefer
if you just paid for the cut ($18 a couple of years ago) and referred
someone you knew to him instead of leaving a tip.

Another hairdresser in the Cambridge area is Judy Jetson. Her place is
on Mass Ave about 2-3 blocks south of Porter Sq on the left as you
go toward Harvard Sq. There are others who work there, but I always
get Judy for my haircuts. I think a cut is $23.

I used to have a more "interesting" hair style, shall we say, and she's
really good at being creative and unconventional. I told her I needed
a more conservative look last year when I decided to change jobs.
She's good on the traditional cuts, too. (BTW - I have short sort of
wavy hair. A friend who also goes to Judy has very curly hair. We
    both like her.)

Nope, no relation to George and Jane - unless they settled in Chelsea,
    that is. :^)
