Note 628.2 FRIENDSHIP QUILT CONTINUES... 2 of 5

The top of the quilt is entirely done now. What can I say? It's
gorgeous!
My neighbors all _know_ I'm bonkers, because I spent a bit of time
perched atop a step ladder in my front yard photgraphing it this past
Saturday.
Plans are under advisement for a quilting marathon in the Sept-Nov
timeframe, so watch for an announcement.
I know it's limiting, but... at present the quilt-in-progress can be
found in my office, near MKO1-1/K11. If anyone happens to be in the
area, do drop by and have a look. If I'm not here, Nancy or Jen most
likely will be.

In preparation for the completion of the quilt and the planned raffle,
we now need to get an approximate count of the number of people
who will be willing to sell raffle tickets.
If you are willing, please send me mail (please do not reply in
this conference - just type SEND/AUTHOR while reading this reply)
including your name, mail stop, DTN, and an estimate of the number
of tickets you will be able to sell.
Let's see if we can get participation from all areas on this one!
Below is a sample of the information we'll be making available for
promoting ticket sales:

You could become the owner of this lovely Friendship Quilt and help
a worthy cause, Women, Inc., of Dorchester, MA, at the same time.
For $2 a chance (3 for $5) you could win this beautiful xx" X xx"
piece of art to display or use in your home. At the same time your
donation will go to help dependent women learn the skills necessary
for independence and self-worth.
About the Cause:
Women, Inc., is a private, non-profit agency helping women move
from dependence on drugs, alcohol, and public assistance to independent
health and responsibility. Since most clients are single parents,
the agency treats the needs of both mother and child. Families
are kept together. Serving clients through both residential and
outpatient programs, counseling and advocacy, the agency is linked
with health care facilities to assure pre-natal care for pregnant
clients. A re-entry program helps women adapt successfully to working
life, pressures of independent parenting, and the reality of a
drug-filled world. The child-care center provides care and development
programs for 34 children and is licensed to provide protective services
to children-at-risk.
About the Quilt:
This Friendship Quilt was conceived, designed, and created by a
group of crafts-people who met each other through a world-wide
computer-network bulletin board. Working in locations around the
globe, they shared ideas for the design of the quilt and the cause
it would benefit. Then they pooled their talents to create the
cross-stitch flower panels, many signed with their creator's name
and location. Finally, a group of stitchers met (some face-to-face
for the first time) in several quilting bees to join the cross-stitch
panels into the quilt you see pictured above. The contributors
found joy in the knowledge that their efforts would be joined with
those of others who share the joy of stitchery to create a work
of art tht could benefit a worthy cause.
Hope to hear from LOTS of you!
