381.0. "ORGANIZATIONS " by WAV14::WUNDER (No relation to Stevie...) Wed Jan 11 1989 16:24

    Hi...
I would like to know if anyone is familiar with an
Organization called Young Women Executives (I don't
think this is the actual name of it) or a similar
organization which enables women such as myself (I'm
    24) to meet other women near my age after work to
get to know each other and become friends, etc.

I moved down from Maine a little over a year ago and
have not been in a climate where I could meet women
of similar interests. My girlfriends from school are
scattered in various states, the women I work with are
all older, have their own families (don't get me wrong-
they are wonderful to work with, but are not people I
can see 'after' work), and I have a male roommate I
split rent with (he is also wonderful, but now and again
I would just like to go out with 'the girls'!)

Anyways..... I understand there is/was an Organization
in Portland, ME providing exactly what I'm seeking, and
I would assume (hope) they would have an affiliate down
in this area. The person who informed me of this has
since moved to Colorado, and I have not been able to find
out any information on my own through area phone books
or by just asking the question.

If anyone knows of Business Organizations that provide
great opportunities for networking, I would love to hear
about them (and I'm sure others would too!)

    Thanks!
    Debbie

You did not give the area you live in, but if you live in
the Nashua area, I suggest that you call the YWCA. They
have several very active groups although I have no idea
    of the make-up of them.

And again, if you live in the Nashua area, on Thursdays (I think)
the Nashua Telegraph lists the various organizations and things
to do within the southern NH area and organizations are listed
    there.

Have you attempted to join any of the Business and Professional
Women groups that are in just about every town or city? I know
there is a very active one in Boston than meets at Trinity church
at Copley. And there is one in Nashua.

Thanks Marilyn... you're right I did forget to mention
where I live. I live in Marlboro, and your last paragraph
was more in tune to what I was interested in. You
mention they are everywhere... yet, I have not been able to
    locate one.

That's what I am looking for... what are the names of these
Business Organizations? Who are the people they target as
members? Where are they located, or where do they meet?
Can you recommend a contact? Can you offer additional
    information on any particular one?

    Thanks!

I suggest that you call the public library in Marlboro. Our
library in Nashua is more than helpful in matters like this.

And you could call the local newspaper if there is one in
Marlboro. I used to do PR for Rape and Assault in Nashua
and learned how to use newspaper resources--they are usually
    quite helpful.

If I remember correctly when I was offered an opportunity to
attend the Nashua Business and Professional Woman's Organization
I went with someone who could "sponsor" me. No big deal, that.
At that time I chose not to join, but the several meetings I
attended were both interesting and I met some nice women who
    shared common interests with me.

You might try the phonebook and see if "Marlboro Business..." etc
is listed; it isn't in Nashua, but...

Let me know if you find what you are seeking.
