playing with my dogs,
galloping across the fields on my mare Miss Taffy (she was born
to run and loves it),
feeling the soft air in spring and smelling the moist earth,
growing flowering plants in my house,
getting a hug from my niece,
dreaming about being "in love" again,
and most especially, reading ee cummings love poetry (it's why
I'm the 'lady', cause he always talks to her)
"lady through whose profound and and fragile lips
the sweet small clumsy feet of April came
into the ragged meadow of my soul"
or
"my naked lady framed
in twilight is an accident
whose niceness betters easily the intent
of genius-
painting wholly feels ashamed
before this music, and poetry cannot
go near because perfectly fearful"

Heavens, yes! Massage would be excellent for recovery of those
back muscles that have been trying to keep the back still so
it doesn't hurt. (Not an easy task!)
Ask your chiropractor first, if you have any doubts, but *my*
professional opinion is that massage would be VERY beneficial.
If you can do ANYTHING else but take muscle relaxers, do it. Massage
(and relaxation tachniques like meditation) are the way to relax
muscles. Every drug you take, your liver has to process - if you
can do the same thing without drugs, do it.
Jacqui, please see a massage therapist. I can recommend several.

One size too small is THE RIGHT size for leather skirts. They look so
much better when tight and it will probably stretch a bit anyway. $30,
amazing! My wife's leather skirts cost me around the A$80 mark and
that was a good deal from a manufacturer. It is unfortunate that some
leather skirts are like bikinis, the less there is - the more they
cost!

| I agree with Bonnie. I have to get my head right and
understand that I'll actually feel better, look better
and BE better after losing weight. And, I am against
these crash diets where you lose weight incredibly
fast and then put it right back on.
My wife and I started eating differently on the 26th
of January. We're basically using some info from
Weight Watchers that she got back in the late 1970s.
I weigh myself every Monday morning when I get to
work. I've lost 2 pounds every week except last week,
when I lost 1 pound.
Our secretary gave me some info from a 1982 Family Circle.
The article is about the diet Norman Jolliffe started back
in the 1950s. This diet is the one that Jean Nidetch (founder
of Weight Watchers) lost 72 pounds on. Basically, WW is the
Jolliffe diet with another name.
Anyway, once I get my head right, the weight comes off at a
rate that is not dangerous to me. After a couple of days, I
know what I should and should not eat. I don't have to think
too much about it anymore, and I'm down 7 pounds in 3 weeks.
Interesting thing is, I never feel hungry anymore. When I was
eating junk, I'd wake up in the morning with a real strong
hunger feeling.

Be aware that WW has changed DRASTICALLY in the past few
years. Mainly due to the fact that much of the food on the
original diet was unhealthy (ie, too much salt, high
chloresterol, etc).
While the old diet might be a good guideline, I wouldn't
suggest following it to the letter.

| Re. -.119 (hypnotizing) -
Yes, "V", I've been hypnotized to lose weight through the
Digital-sponsored program. For about five months it was wonderful --
my mind was set on losing weight, I wasn't hungry and looking for the
next snack all the time, and I was losing weight slowly but surely.
Then it all fell apart. I'm not sure why. With the Digital-sponsored
program there aren't any follow-up sessions but, in theory, they aren't
supposed to be needed. At about the same time I "fell off the
wagon," I also changed jobs, the holidays were upon us, my outdoor
exercise option got too cold and messy to be reasonable, and my time for
listening to the motivational tapes was drastically reduced.
I keep hoping to get back into the routine, but so far I haven't. The
good news is that, while I've regained about 5 lbs. I'd lost, I've
managed to keep off the other 10 lbs. I lost while on the program.
Send me mail if you'd like more information.

| I was having a tough time getting back on my diet, V, and so I looked
into hypnotism to provide the extra energy. I had one session and
either I'm not a useful subject or the psychologist I consulted wasn't
a capable practitioner, because as far as I know it didn't work (I had
none of the symptoms of post-hypnotic suggestion). My experience
aside, I'm told that it positively does work in general.

300.122 | How did I do it? Gradually!! | ULTRA::DWINELLS | | Mon Feb 19 1990 12:16 | 26 |
| I had tried Weight Watchers for awhile, but got tired of the meetings.
I did learn how to group foods together and which combinations were
best. To this day, I have not followed any specific diet. I don't
believe in them. What I do, is watch what I eat ie: avoid chips with
sandwhiches, no corn or bread if I already have potatoe, etc. I have
changed my eating habits, drastically!! But I don't find I am deprived
of any foods that I like. I definitely eat less now than I did before
and most of what I eat is in the earlier part of the day. At work, I
usually have a bagel with the cream cheese, then I have a sandwich or a
hot meal (providing it's not swimming in sauce or gravy) for lunch.
Then at night, I may have a light snack, very rarely do I have a big
meal for dinner.
I am no saint! If the urge for something gets too great, I "sample"
instead of indulge. The worst is in the summer, as I could eat ice
cream every day, twice on Sunday! Last year, I had three kiddy cones
all summer. Normally, I would have had three banana splits a month!
I think the most difficult part of losing weight for me, is that my
"other half" is one of those "can eat like a horse and not gain an
ounce". But even that is not too bad, now that we have been together
for awhile. I think that I am just so used to seeing him eat, that it
only bothers me on rare occasion now.
And there you have it. It works for me better than any "diet" or
program I have tried (and I have tried several).

I still love working at DEC
I love nice sunny days...any time of the year..
I love to x-country ski...whenever I get the chance
I love keeping fit and bodybuilding
I love to socialize
I love the fact that I have accomplished so much with my place in the
last couple of years and the fact that I can do lots of things for
myself, like paneling, carpet laying, some plumbing, carpentry...and
other things
I love camping and fishing out of a boat
I love being up north in the wilderness
I guess I love the great outdoors!

| Getting ready to buy my new horse. I've loved her since she was born
and was thrilled when her owner decided to sell. Her name is The Irish
Connection and she's a thoroughbred/conamara cross. She's a gray
that's mostly white (her daddy is pure white so she probably will be
too after a few years). Sigh, I was not going to buy another green
horse (and certainly never one with thoroughbred blood in her) but love
took over. Irish moves like a dream and we are great together. liesl

Thanks for all the =wn=er's who did keep the surprise from Nancy Bittle,
despite one person telling her that they were sorry they missed her
surprise party, she STILL had no clue :-)...
It was great to actually see her smile when she realized we weren't
getting my girls from a Saturday night Teen-aged get-together :-)

| Thanks a million to Gale and Amy for the organizing, and to my
friends for a great evening.
Yes, Gale, (brat!;-) I was _totally_ surprised. The mail that I
received talking about a surprise party was a regret with an
incorrect date (one day last week), so I thought either the
person was confused, or there _was_ a party planned, but somehow
things just didn't work out and I wasn't about to make anybody
feel bad by asking about a surprise bday party that didn't work
out for whatever reason (so I didn't reply with a what-in-the-
world-are-you-talking-about mail).
What an evening - start out with "Little Shop of Horrors" at
Foothills Theatre, insert some comic relief and good times with a
surprise bday party, and continue with a midnight showing of
Rocky Horror Picture Show (my first time ever), where I _quietly_
lost my virginity no thanks to Jim Bay and D!ana Carroll thank-
you-very-much ;-P!
nancy b.
p.s. Gale, sorry about the scare re: wanting to go to the later
showing to see the Duke NCAA bball game at 5:30. I saw it all on
videotape when I got home after Rocky Horror ;-).
