246.0. "Hairstylists around Shrewsbury?" by HPSRAD::LAM () Wed Oct 19 1988 15:56

    I did a dir/title="hair", but did not find any notes.
    Would anyone recommend a hairstylist in Shrewsbury/Westboro/Northboro/
    Marlboro area? I have very straight hair. I don't want to just look
    up some names in the yellow pages.
    Many thanks

    -Caroline

246.2inexpensive and goodLEZAH::BOBBITTgot to crack this ice and fly...Wed Oct 19 1988 17:1810
    I would recommend Rob Roy in the White City shopping center on Rte. 9.
    I just have walk-in appointments (you just walk in, and when they have
    an opening, usually within 15 minutes, they'll take you, costs less
    that way) and they do what I ask. Another great place, if you don't
    like to wait, and you don't need anything too fancy, is "Great Cuts $8"
    (read that great cuts eight bucks) which is just beyond the Worcester
    Common and City Hall on Main Street (near the Galleria).

    "downtown" Marlborough.

    Cheryl from Marino's Hair Place was an old neighbor of mine. I
    go to her too except for those times I feel like a walk-in cut
    during a boring weekend.

246.5The Beautique in WestboroMIRAGE::RMCCAFFREYThu Oct 20 1988 11:3414

    	I have very, very thick hair that, for obvious reasons, has
    to be very short. It also is incredibly straight. I go to the
    Beautique in Westboro where Pam gives me perms. No one who's ever
    seen me has ever thought that I had a perm. Most people don't believe
    me when I tell them that it's not natural. The people there are
    very friendly and very good. I don't know if it's expensive or
    not because I've been going there for the past 4 years. They also
    do manicure's and stuff there. My whole family (Mum and my 3 other
    sisters) is very happy with the service and the results.

    GO IRISH!

    New Horizons I and II in Marlboro.

    I go to Amy at II. I think she does an excellent job; I left
    a hairdresser I'd gone to for 17 years to switch to her.

246.7Try this..FRICK::ROSADOThu Oct 20 1988 17:216
    Maybe Framingham is out of your way but John Dellarias on Concord
    St. is VERY good. WARNING: Do not go to any Great Cuts places. They
    may be cheap but they don't do a good job. I went to the Framingham
    one a while back and a friend of mine went to the Worcester one.
    Forget it!! Even the one in Waltham-no good. (at least for me anyway).

    Valanti's in Hudson does a nice job. They also have
    a place in Marlboro near the Cinema.

    I also agree with.-1 about the Great Cuts. I tried them
    on Route 70 in Worcester near the Lincoln Plaza shopping center.
    Hair cut was less than great.
246.9Where is Nancy from Moja's???PHAROS::MCHUGHFri Oct 21 1988 13:157
    Nancy at Moja's in Westboro use to do my hair but she left six weeks
    ago. Does any one know of a new stylist named Nancy with short
    red (curly top) hair? If anyone knows where she is, I highly recommend
    her. Unfortunately the owner/proprietor of Moja's will not say
    where she went to.

    I recommend Pinnacle Hair Gallery in Ol' Shrewsbury Village. They
    seem to have all the lastest styles and products.
246.11Try a Barber....SCOMAN::GARDNERMon Oct 24 1988 10:5112

    Mary Sousa at Phaneff's Barber Shop in Hudson on Main Street is
    good for haircuts that fall right into place with blow drying.
    She is a Barber and gives a percision cut that is great. She
    only works on Saturdays :-( and would suggest calling ahead to
    her father for an appointment. Another boohooo....she is going
    in for surgery this Friday and will be out for about a month.

    She also is a great rescuer to rotten perm givers. :*)

    I've also been going to Mary Sousa at Phaneuf's Barber Shop. I have
    "impossible" hair, and she manages to do some sort of magic that
    no one else can do. Her father is my second favorite hair cutter.
    I enjoy going to their shop, too -- it's a real neighborhood place,
    and they're both fun to talk to.

    re:  .12

    Liz,

    I *ONLY* let Mary cut my hair. Her father is not as talented
    as she is, even though he is the Master Barber in the shop. She
    cannot practice on her own as she has not gone for the Master
    designation. We make it a team event every month with me either
    going first or Hugh.

    The number is 562-7931 and is located at 67 Main Street in Hudson, MA.

246.14How About Worcester?BOSHOG::STRIFEbut for.....i wouldn't be me.Mon Oct 24 1988 23:029

    I'm real fussy about my hair. I like it to look GREAT with a
    minimum of fuss and I can't look at a picture and know if a style
    is good for me but like to change my hairstyle several times a year.
    Needless to say I have to have a hair stylist who knows thier stuff.
    I go to Capelli Avanti in Worcester (near Northworks). Angelo,
    one of the owners, does my hair and i've never had a problem. He
    also does my daughter's hir (she's 19) and about 5 of my friends
    now go to him. I think he's great!
246.15HAIR IN SHREWSBURYBARTLE::READThu Oct 27 1988 10:3210
    I have been going to Susan (owner) at the Pinnacle Hair Gallery in
    Shrewsbury Village, for several years. She used to be in Westboro
    at Rob Roy and when she opened her own salon in Shrewsbury about
    a year ago I have continued to go to her. She is very much concerned
    that the customer is pleased and guarantees her work.

    I also have very straight hair! You've just reminded me it's time
    for another permanent. Maybe I'll see you there!

246.16City Flair - tell her I sent you!JJM::ASBURYMon Nov 07 1988 10:0315
I have hair that tends to be very tough to style. I have lots of cowlicks
    and other "problem" areas. I like a cut that looks great with a
    minimum of fuss. I just don't have time (or patience) to spend hours
    on my hair.

    About 4 years ago, a friend recommended City Flair in Worcester.
    Kerri, the owner, is great. She does a fantastic job on my hair.
    My hair also grows very fast, so I need a cut that looks good at
    various lengths, not just 2 days after I have it cut.

    So, I heartily recommend Kerri at City Flair in Worcester! (Phone
    number is 756-1673)

    Update to .11: Mary Sousa will be cutting hair on Friday nights
    until about 8. She plans to add Thursday nights to her schedule,
    too. Yippee!
