Last night I volunteered to be the Alumnae Chapter Advisor for my sorority at my alma mater. I wonder if anyone out there has done anything similar and can give me a little insight into what I can expect/what might be expected of me. I have a general idea of what I'd like to do, and naturally it depends on what the chapter's expectations are, but if anyone has any experience in this area, it would be helpful. Thanks, Cathy

Cathy, I think the most important thing to remember is that these girls need someone to give them direction/keep them on track. It is your job to make sure that the organization is run in a fair and enjoyable manner. Don't let just a few girls RUN the chapter -- help them to work together, and to share with each other so that they can develop into happy and successful adult women, who have only good memories of college and their sorority once they graduate. Be their friend, support them, but also keep them in line -- help them remember what the sorority's goals and objectives are, while they are having fun along the way. I have some very wonderful memories of my sorority days -- I think that you will be very happy with your decision to be an advisor. GOOD LUCK !!!!! :-) :-) Dawn. |
