173.0. "Free Clinics in South NH?" by HARDY::MATHERS () Tue Sep 13 1988 11:43

A good friend of mine just found out her younger sister (age 20)
is six months pregnant. She is unmarried, lives at home, has
no job, and has no health insurance. Her mother does not know
she is pregnant (hard to believe). Her boyfriend is away at school
and apparently does not realize the seriousness of the situation.

She has not been to a doctor at all yet. My friend (her sister)
just found out about all this last night and is insisting that
she see a doctor immediately and my friend will pay the bills.

My question is, can anyone recommend clinics in the Southern NH
area that would have low cost, yet good quality pre-natal care?

    Thanks for any help,

-< Free Clinics in South NH? >-

There is a clinic in Concord NH that is worth the ride to start with.

I think it is called The Feminst Health Clinic - it is the only one
I know of in NH. If you need the address I can look it up for you.

Good luck.

There is a Feminist Health Center in Portsmouth, NH as well. The
quality of pre-natal care there is excellent, the staff is extremely
helpful, and the cost is low. Another place is the Family Planning
Clinic in Nashua, although I recommend Portsmouth as your first
    choice.

Your friend should contact the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Nashua.
They can direct her to clinics to help. If she chooses to keep her
baby they can provide supplies (clothes and equipment), they also
provide counselling to help her through the decisions she's having
    to face.

You can contact them at 883-1122.

I just read that St. Joseph's Hospital in Nashua is starting a program
for pregnant teenagers with no health insurance.
