147.0. "The End." by CSSE::CICCOLINI () Mon Aug 29 1988 17:55

Well, folks, I have to say I've had an absolute blast since discovering
notes and womannotes in particular. I'm going to miss the network, the
notesfile and especially the great people I've met and talked with because
of it. I love lively discussion, (to the occasional dismay of those close
to me!), and this has been a wonderful forum for that. The best. I never
knew about "bulletin boards" until this file and I doubt any of them can
be as good as this one. Maybe it's because I'm familiar with many of the
participants in this one, maybe it's because we all work at Digital, maybe
it's because this one is so specifically "woman-positive". I don't know.
I'd prefer to just think that it's the best.

But I'm moving on. I'm leaving Digital for a smaller pond where I'll be a
bigger fish. ;-) I'm outta here this Friday, 9/2.

I want to personally thank Maggie, Bonnie, Liz, Lee, Catherine, Suzanne,
Lorna, Leisl, Justine & Peggy for being the kind of women I always knew were
out there - somewhere! You have re-affirmed my faith in womanhood and made
me comfortable with my beliefs. I always held them, to be sure, but I always
thought I was just "different" and usually kept my thoughts private in order
to exist smoothly in a man's world. Now however I feel strong in the know-
ledge that the world is just as much woman's and it is indeed chauvinism that
should be treated as "different" even though it enjoys the popular vote!

And I want to thank you spunky guys! You keep me on my toes and force me
to think rationally and not emotionally. I always knew emotion didn't cut
any ice with men and in the emotionally loaded discussions we've had, you've
reminded me of that!

I didn't get scars from this file I got muscle and strength. I got the know-
ledge that we, men and women alike, all want to be liked, be happy, be suc-
cessful with the opposite sex. The difference is in our teachings of what
"success" with the opposite sex is. Girls are taught that success is the
trip down the aisle and sex is related to it only in that it is supposed to
come "later". Boys are taught that sucess is the trip to her bedroom and
marriage is related to it only in that is is supposed to come "later". The
resultant push/pull of men and women trying to be successful with the opposite
sex causes so much heartache and pain it is worth it to step outside our
teachings and take a hard look at reality - even if we like what we've been
taught. Women are brought up on vague fantasy images of sex but spend their
adult lives dealing with the hard reality of it. Boys on the other hand are
usually taught the realities of sex but spend most of their adult lives in
the fantasy images of it. Where can we ever connect? Do we have to? Should
we even try?

I'll really miss this forum and I'm very sad that I won't be able to ever
again take a few minutes to see what's cooking in womannotes. Rest assured
this pot will boil for along time to come! ;-)

Take care all and never forget the golden rule!

Peace,

Sandy

I'll be injecting my scathing observations and black satire into
notes for the remainder of this week, however! It's not likely
I can give up WN cold turkey until I have to! ;-)

Sandy, unless I was REALLY pressed for time, I have read every one
of your 100+ line replies with relish and applause. Your insight
has unlocked doors and soooo many additional questions.

Thanks for making me think! You will be missed.

Sandy, you've so often said what I wanted to say, clearly.
And so often you've said something I'd not thought of, or
that I even actively disagreed with, and I sat down and
    thought about it real hard.

I've never met you, but I'm going to miss you!

Good luck in your "next life!"

Sandy, love and best wishes in your new job. If your new company
is on one of the nets you may be able to still reach us. A friend
of mine from Hughes just found me across the arpanet.

You'll be missed. You've so often said things that gave me a new
       perspective. liesl

The disciple asked the Master "What is the meaning of enlightenment?"
The Master picked up a stick and whacked the disciple over the
    head. He was instantly enlightened.

( Told to me by a karate teacher. Means 'shut up and listen'. )

Your notes have often been the whack upside the head I've
needed. Thanks for the insights, the honesty, the courage.

I'm going to miss you very much! We've all grown together in this file,
and your notes have been some of the highlights.

I hope you're happy in your new job, and you get some of that success in
your own right that we're all entitled to...

    	Sandy,

Your notes have been among the most eloquent and humorous social
commentaries on sexism that I have ever seen (and I will miss
    	you very much!!)

Like Catherine said, we've all grown together in this conference
over the past couple of years, and your notes have been a big
    	part of that.

I hope your move brings you much success! You deserve it!!
I just wish that we didn't have to say goodbye ...

Take care and please keep in touch!

Sandy,

I don't know you, but I like the way you write and usually what you have
to say. Thanks for putting into words (and so articulately!) what I often
think, but my emotions get in the way.

I'll miss you.

    [I really do that. Honest.]

You will be missed an awful lot.

Well, I'm kind of sorry you choose to leave amid a flurry
of generalizations ... but maybe it's an appropriate
    finale to your noting career.

I sincerely hope you find the world outside of DEC more just
and fair than you have evidently found it inside.

    Good luck

My usual message to people leaving DEC is good bye, good luck,
and you'll be sorry. To that I'll add, don't forget to tell
everyone whose mailing lists you're on that you're leaving.
It really makes things easier for them. Expecially when you
are on as big a list as I have your name on.

    Sandy,

I am going to miss you on the front lines - I have been in a
quiet mood this summer and have not said/written much. BUT I
have been reading and I will truly miss your notes.
