146.0. "Rationalization/Justification" by ATPS::GREENHALGE (Mouse) Mon Aug 29 1988 15:51

    I've been tempted to respond to several notes but find that the
    same response would be applicable to many in this conference.

    This is a great conference, folks, but there's just SO much being
    said here regarding MEN'S intentions for almost every move they
    make either being ill-intended or derogatory in nature (granted,
    I will agree with some). What amazes me in this file is it NEVER
    seems to occurs to some of you how badly a woman can be treated
    by another woman, or how badly some women treat men.

    With this in mind, I'd like to offer the following "Food For Thought:

		When the other fellow acts that way,
			he's ugly;
		When you do it, it's nerves,
		When he's set in his ways, he's obstinate;
		When you are, it's just firmness.
		When he doesn't like your friends,
			he's prejudiced;
		When you don't like his, you are simply
			showing good judgment of human nature.
		When he tries to be accommodating, he's
			polishing the apple;
		When you do it, you're using tact.
		When he takes time to do things, he
			is dead slow;
		When you take ages, you are deliberate.
		When he picks flaws, he's cranky;
		When you do, you're discriminating.

    What's that old saw about "Never attribute to malice what can be
    explained by ignorance"?

Thanks!

I like the quote from Robert Heinlein, "Remember, your enemy is never
a villian in his own eyes."

    Hear! Hear! And I like the other version I've heard too:

    Never attribute to malice that which can as easily be explained
    by stupidity.
