103.3 | Just a suggestion.... | PNEUMA::BLANCHARD | It ain't that pretty at all | Tue Aug 09 1988 13:58 | 7 |
| I too am getting marrried in October. I don't know if you have your
heart set on live music, but I would suggest a DJ. They are
cheaper, and you are sure of what the music sounds like. Send
me mail if you want details of the DJ we are going with.

103.4 | How much can you spend? | RATTLE::MONAHAN | | Tue Aug 09 1988 14:25 | 14 |
| What is your budget for the music?
I just booked a band for my wedding......VERY expensive.
I know that for a D.J. it will cost you around $500 or so.
If that's too high still, do you have a stereo with a tape recording
system in it? You could call your radio station to request your
first dance, have them play it, record it. Borrow some records
from friends and record certain songs. Call the radio station and
request more songs. Buy some records and/or tapes.
Any good???

103.5 | Wedding Tunes | GIGI::WARREN | | Tue Aug 09 1988 14:50 | 29 |
| Jane--
We had the Paul Broadnax trio at our wedding. (I can't believe
it'll be four years in October!) He is also available solo (on
piano). As I recall, he was cheaper and better than most of the
bands we checked out. He plays quite a bit of jazz. He frequently
plays--or at least he used to--at Ephraim's in Sudbury. I think it
would be worth going to hear him play. Even if you don't end up with
him, it's a nice evening out.
The only problem was that instead of his usual club act, he turned
a little "wedding-y" on us that day, which we didn't enjoy as much.
If we had anticipated that, we would have been clearer with him
about what we liked and didn't. You might want to keep that in
mind no matter who you select.
I'll ask my husband if he remembers how much they cost.
I also have a friend who's a DJ and does a lot of weddings and other
events. Let me know if you decide to go that route and I'll get
you the information.
Good luck (and hurry--it's August!).

103.6 | Make your own wedding tapes. | NSG022::POIRIER | Suzanne | Tue Aug 09 1988 15:02 | 21 |
| Jane,
The cheapest way would be as .4 suggested. If you have your own sound
system make your own tapes of your favorite dance music. Borrow, buy
oldies, top 40's, jazz, waltzes - whatever music you like best. I do
this all the time for my parties and for friends - Just plop the tape
in and you don't have to worry about it for another 45 minutes! In
fact if you want help making a tape, I will gladly offer. I have a
large selection of CDs and albums from classical, jazz, piano solos,
50's, to top 40's.
The only thing you must make sure of is that your sound system can
project well where ever you are having your reception (especially for
outdoor weddings). If your speakers are to small, some rental stores
will rent audio equipment including speakers or an amplifier.
Let me know if you would like help Jane - I know you've offered
to help me before with kitty situations!

103.7 | Forgot to mention | NSG022::POIRIER | Suzanne | Tue Aug 09 1988 15:04 | 9 |
| PS
My cousins wedding last April used pre-made tapes for her home wedding.
They made one tape to be used for all the special dances ie first
dance, mother/groom dance, father bride dance. One tape was dinner
music. And several tapes were made with great dance music.
Everything was just fine. In fact everyone had a great time dancing!

| Thanks everyone for all your suggestions! I may have something;
waiting for the tape to see if I like this person or not.
Thank you to everyone for your kindness.

103.9 | a radical idea | DOODAH::RANDALL | Bonnie Randall Schutzman | Thu Aug 11 1988 10:06 | 6 |
| We went extremely radical and didn't have music. Very few people
in either of our families even like to dance, so our reception was
just a nice dinner so everybody had a chance to talk and get to
know the other side of the family.

103.10 | Another vote for tapes | SKETCH::SHUBIN | I'm not changing *my* name, either. | Mon Aug 29 1988 16:58 | 12 |
| We're getting married on Saturday (my, how time flies), and we're using
tapes. I'm making one, my brother-in-law is making one (he used to be a
radio DJ), and we're having a friend of a friend make a third. It was
fun going through all our records, and trying to figure out clever
combinations of songs. I found things that I'd completely forgotten
about.
We thought about a band, but figured it'd be too much. We really dislike
having a bandleader who acts as MC, and this way we'll be sure to like
the music.
