I was looking at note 859 in V1 (on what underwear are preffered),
and thought the following discussion would provide some amusement:
Dramatis personae:
Me, then aged about 25
My sister, then 14 going on 30
My mother.
We were vacationing together, and at the moment in question were
sorting the laundry. I had been getting in rather late on some
nights without explaining my whereabouts. My mother noted that
some of my underwear were wearing out.
Mother: (exasperated) David, you can't have an affair in torn underwear!
Sister: Don't worry Mom, he probably takes them off first.

Reminds me of a shopping trip with my mother, when I was home from college. I was picking out pretty underwear, which of course is more expensive than the plain white kind. My mother made some comment about how my sister (3.5 years older than me) didn't seem to need fancy underwear. I pointed out that "no one but my sister sees her underwear!". My mother shut up.
