We've had some discussion in this file about how pleasant it is to meet
fellow noters when travelling. If you're planning a trip and would like
to meet with members of the =wn= community, reply to this note with
your destination and the dates that you plan to be there. Local
residents can then contact you and arrange a get-together. Remember
to delete your entry when you return home.

I'm going to be in the Greater LA area (Westlake Village, Thousand
Oaks) next week on business. Any =wn= folks who might like to show me around?
I've never really been in the greater LA area before.

Please send mail (WAYLAY::GORDON) rather than clutter the file.

I'm off to Cupertino (UCF1, I believe) for six weeks. Tomorrow's my
last day on this coast 'till 10/22. I have my west coast address and
phone number, but will be using this account while I'm there (ie. I
_will_ get mail sent to this node).

16.9My Brother's first visit to the US...SHIRE::BIZELa femme est l'avenir de l'hommeWed Apr 11 1990 12:1845

My brother will be travelling in the U.S. in May and June of this year, and
would be happy to meet some residents of the States he will be going through.
He is not looking for free lodgings - though I guess he wouldn't refuse them -
rather for the pleasure of meeting new people in a foreign country, as well as
any hints or tips about the places he'll be visiting. Though this is his first
trip to the States, his English is fluent from many vacation spent with our
English cousins and reading lots of SF books. He is financing this trip himself
so suggestions like "try the Presidential Suite of the Boogaloop Hilton in
Santa Barbara" wouldn't be a great help!

A little background: Francois is 22 years old, he graduated this winter from
the Swiss Polytechnical School as an Engineer in "Materials" - I don't know the
English translation for that, but it's basically the study of new materials for
use in the industry. He doesn't smoke, drink or take drugs. He is a science-
fiction & role- & fantasy-games playing nut, ahem, I mean fan. He has written
his own game, and publishes a small role-games-related newspaper. HOWEVER, for
those of you who couldn't care less about this sort of things, he is perfectly
able to have a "normal" conversation! As I said I'd give him my note to read, I
really don't want to heap compliments on him, but I do consider him a fair spe-
cimen of what good education applied to a reasonable brain can produce...

Approx dates are:

Week 7 May - Philadelphia (he'll be visiting the University of Pensylvania,
where studies similar to his own are conducted)
14-18 May - Washington, D.C.
19-20 May - New York (already has a contact)
21-23 May - Salt Lake City
24-30 May - Yellowstone Park (wants to visit by himself, but any info will
				be appreciated)
31/5-4 June - Las Vegas
5- 8 June - Los Angeles
8-12 June - San Francisco
12-16 June - New Orleans
16-26 June - Florida
26/6-3 July - Atlanta for the "Origins" Game Convention

I plan to cross-post this note to the SF notesfile, and if they exist (and I
have the time to look for them) in the "local" notefiles. I'll forward any
inquiry/suggestion/offer to my brother.

Thanks a LOT in advance.

16.11I Mean *NO* One Comes to Salt Lake VoluntarilyHENRYY::HASLAM_BACreativity UnlimitedWed Apr 11 1990 14:408
Good grief! He's coming to Salt Lake? I'll be most happy to share
the floor of the family abode (unless he prefers the sofa) for his
sleeping bag. We'd be happy to show him around, so let me know,
    okay?

I'd be happy to have him drop in, and we can probably give him tips
about things to do in the area, but we probably don't have time to
entertain him much personally. I'm an avid reader of SF myself, and am an
FRPer, so we should be able to talk about some things.

one thing for sure though - He MUST visit the Exploratorium in San
Fransisco. What a WONDERFUL science museum - almost all of the exhibits are
"hands on" and the people are VERY helpful and friendly. He should also
    visit Yosemite if he can.
