| I wore the wedding gown my mother was married in. When we got it
out of storage, it had rust stains all over! I have no idea how
they got there, but they were all down the train and the skirt on
the front. I took the gown to a really good dry cleaner, explained
my dilemma and asked what they could do. Well, to make a long story
short, when I got the dress back it looked like it had just been
brought home new from the store! They not only got all the rust
stains out, but also told me they put a new finish on the satin
(whatever that means). I'd take it to a cleaner and ask what they
think.

| Speaking of weddings.....does anyone have an idea what it
costs for someone to videotape a six hour wedding? I just
got hit with an amount that I find hard to swallow.
(My husband's daughter is getting married next May).
After some input, I'll let you know what amount she was quoted.
Thanks

| I got married last March. I was determined that we would *not*
be taken advantage of by any sort of jerk that thinks that our wedding
was just another excuse to help him/herself to my money. I found
that nearly all the services we required (limmo, cake, etc) could
be had for a reasonable amount. You had to do some shoping around,
but it can be done - with one exception: photographers. I couldn't
believe what a ripoff these guys do on you! The conversations went
something like this -
ME - I want still pictures starting at the church and ending half
way thru the reception. I figure that'll involve four hours. I
want mostly candids with a minimum disruption to the flow of the
day.
THEM - How many in your wedding party?
ME - Eight, why?
THEM - So that will be eleven albums you will be wanting.
ME - ELEVEN! How do you figure that!
THEM - One for each in the wedding party, one for each set of inlaws,
plus your own.
ME - I see no reason to have an album for any of the attendants.
THEM - Oh, so you want our economy package.
ME - Yes, I guess so. Just how economical is this "economy package"?
THEM - $575
ME - ^&(*)%%&*(
THEM - Don't forget that will only include the two inlaw albums
plus your own.
ME - How about if we don't want any inlaw albums.
THEM - Then we can just put the extra pictures in *your* album.
ME - What if I don't *want* any extra pictures!
THEM - Well, maybee we could give you a few extra enlargments.
ME - How about you skip the enlargments and the extra pictures and
the inlaw albums. What would you charge me then.
THEM - $575. That's our lowest price.
After much soul searching, I decided that I would ask my guests
to bring cameras and rely on them for the pictures. I have not
been disapointed. I canot imagine that the professional guys would
have done much better a job, and each of the guests felt that they
played a real part in our day. Also, I took the $ I saved and got
a video camera. One of my friends used it to tape the wedding,
and I got to keep the camera and tape the honeymoon. All in all,
I was very satisfied with the way things turned out.
Best of luck to you in your search for reasonable prices.

| Hi Marion,
Thanks for your quick response. My stepdaughter was told
she could have her wedding video-taped for a cost of
$1200.00. Yes, you read it right $1200.00 F#$%&^* dollars.
I explained to my husband nicely, that maybe we could pay
for the photographer, and her mother could pay for the video guy.
Can you believe it? Please don't misinterpret anything here.
We are giving her a very nice wedding--175 guests at the
White Cliffs in Northboro, plus everything else that goes
along with it, and a party (with only coffee, tea, soda and
of course food) after the reception at our home.
I happened to mention the 'only coffee, tea, etc', because
I'd like to know if anyone else has ever had an after-reception
party where beer or liquor had not been served. How did the
guests respond? We (my husband and I) feel that 5 hours of
drinking at the reception is plenty for anyone. And that
the party after will give them an opportunity to sober up
before going home.

843.7 | I paid $600 | NSG022::POIRIER | Vacation soon! | Fri May 13 1988 13:46 | 12 |
| Last June we paid 600 dollars for the video tape of our wedding.
The ceremony started at 4:30 so the video person showed up at 3:30.
The reception lasted til midnight and he was there the whole time.
I thought it was worth it.
Suzanne
PS Inorder to enjoy the wedding you have to forget about how much
you are paying for it until after it is all over and then it all
seems worthwhile anyway! Enjoy!

843.8 | It was $350 well spent. | EDUHCI::WARREN | | Fri May 13 1988 14:35 | 12 |
| We paid for about $350 for our videotape, but that was 3 1/2 years
ago. And I _will_ remember to bring his name in...
Re .6: I don't think you should feel bad about not serving alcohol
at the after-party. In fact, it's probably the more "in" thing
to do these days with awareness of drunk driving, etc. If you want
to make sure there is no misunderstanding, just phrase your invitation
as "for coffee and sandwiches" or something like that.

We did not serve any "hard" drinks of any kind at any time for our
wedding. Out of 75 people, we had two rumblings of discontent!
Most people said that it was a relief not to drink and they felt
relaxed and at ease. So that was nice to hear. I had felt odd about
not serving alcohol, then I decided that it was our wedding after
all, we did have a little say in the proceedings!! It turned out
great.

| Some college friends of mine got married, and when they did so they
had a cash bar. I didn't feel it was gauche, because I realized
their financial position, and many of their friends didn't drink
a whole lot. Also, there were lots less drunk people roaming around
than if champagne were flowing like water...

| None of the weddings in my family, mine, my sister's or my brother's
had alcohol served. My sister's was the most recent, had 250 guests
and every one said they had a good time. BTW, there also was no
dancing either.
