841.0. "Reading: Alive and Well!" by SALEM::LYLES (I have some powdered water...) Fri May 06 1988 13:55

The Reading Group formed in September (spawned by the Greater
Nashua Women's Network) is still alive and reading! We are
currently engaged in a membership drive to boost our energy
    level.

There is currently no real association with the Network other
than that several members belong to that organization. We meet
once a month (normally the first Tuesday of every month) at each
other's abodes. We read and discuss books from every genre (history,
politics, general fiction, science fiction, classics, mystery, etc.)

The next meeting is June 7, 1988, and will be in Nashua. The book
is THE HANDMAID'S TALE by Margaret Atwood. This chilling account
of a step into tomorrow has a strong basis in reality today. We
thought this would be a good opportunity to draw new members who are eager
to discuss the themes in the book because they read it sometime
ago, and for others to finally have an incentive to get around to
    reading it.

For light summer fare we have planned a Dick Francis Extravaganza:
A round robin of this prolific author's books. We will all read
a different book of his and discuss the thematic consistencies,
characters, etc. We have a library collection in case you can't
lay your hands on one (everybody shouldn't go and buy the lastest
ones on the racks!). This will be our July selection.

So far we have members in Derry, Nashua, Milford, and Brookline.
Come join us and start reading those books you've been intending
to get to or discussing those books that have stimulated you!
