Spouse Equivalent would at least make clear that the person
using the term is interested only in one's sexual partner.

The first time I got invited to an event that said we could bring
our SO's, I took it to mean that I could bring someone important
to me, and since it was something Neil wasn't interested in but my
daughter, then 12, was interested in, I took her instead. Boy,
did I get some funny looks!

Well, she IS significant to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or, if you attend a lot of standards meetings, causing you to ignore
your "SO", you could use the term ISO for insignificant other...
