| I saw an INTENSE video on MTV this weekend (I think they were doing
some set of "awareness" videos or something - the whole group had
meaning). It was by a woman named Sarah Tuft and it was called
"Don't Make Me Up". It was basically a woman saying - don't paint
me to be your fantasies - don't make me up - don't make me something
I'm not - I'm more than my outside features - I am my own person,
so let me act like my own person and don't try to change me into
what "you" want. It combined brief clips of film from advertisements,
commercials for jeans and makeup and perfume, model photography
sessions, anorexic women, plastic surgery, young girls trying to
look older / old girls trying to look younger...
It was pretty hard-hitting and thought provoking - maybe the music
video is a medium whose time has come to carry a more vital message
than it previously has.

The Y does these coffeehouses on the 4'th Friday of every month.
It's a very nice informal atmosphere, a nice evening out. Once you
go to one, you can get on their distribution list for who will be
performing. Open stage time is available between sets for members
of the audience to perform - you should call to reserve a spot if
you wish to do this.
