783.0. "Goodbye (and leave my titles alone!)" by OPHION::HAYNES (Charles Haynes) Sat Apr 02 1988 00:08

Well folks, I've really enjoyed interacting with all of you over the last
few years. I've fought with some of you, learned from many of you, and
become friends with quite a few of you. Unfortunately now it's time to
    say goodbye.

I've been offered a leadership position at a startup here in Silicon
Valley doing state of the art Unix CASE tools. It's something I've been
interested in for a long time, and I'm really excited about what I'll be
doing. I'm not happy about leaving since I'll be leaving behind so many
of you that I've become fond of, but it's the right thing for me. Today
is my last day at Digital.

I love you all, keep in touch.

     April Fool

Seriously though folks, we often wait until too late to tell people how
much we like and care for them. Well I'm not waiting, I think you're
all a neat bunch of caring people, and I'm glad I know you. I hope
someday to meet more of the faces behind the bits.

If you're ever in California, look me up!

mailing address so we can stay in touch...

I don't think it's very funny, or even mildly amusing, to play
an April Fool's joke in a notes conference.

Just a little curious. . .how come? I personally thought it was
a "good" prank, but don't have any strong feelings about it. I
was sort of wondering about your point of view; while the joke
hit no hot buttons in me, it did in some.

Just idly curious (& vice versa)

"good" prank - oh, jeez, I dunno; one that's not injurious, I
    suppose (I know, I know. . .define "injurious", wise guy. . .)

Side angle: there's always next year, Charles, and that ol' Karmic
wheel is a turnin' even as we speak. . .

783.11DEC without Charles - what a concept!SCOMAN::FOSTERWed Apr 06 1988 10:147
Got me too. I was nearly sniffling. Then I realized that I'd seen
something from you recently. Goodness Charles, you can't leave!
Blacknotes wouldn't have a home! Not to mention the wonderful addition
    of your unique perspective.

Frankly, I think it would be immoral of you to leave DEC. And perhaps
we should make it illegal as well.

gee I hope i'm not too late. If your still here Charles, you'd
be glad to know you don't have to leave totally.

Salis Grano SW Svcs is on the USEnet, and you can come in vis-a-vis
net.jokes.misc or net.misc.blacks (or some such thing).

good luck in your new job...
