    least give them some credit!

    Just curious what others thought about the new LEAR'S Magazine and if
    anyone has seen it yet??

    Hi,

    It sounds like a good magazine, if you come across it please
    let me know the publisher's information and price of the
    magazine. Since MS has sold us out I'd love something
    interesting to read.

| | Egad. When I read .0, I thought "Neat. I'd like to read this, but
    I don't want to wait till I'm 40."

    And then it hit me...

    I'm (almost) 42.

| 764.5 | Available in Maynard and other big cities | BRONS::BURROWS | Jim Burrows | Fri Mar 18 1988 12:34 | 8 |
| | My mother couldn't find a copy in the Merrimack area, so since I
        live in cosmopolitan Maynard she asked me to get her a copy. I
        found it at the Paper Store. There were quite a few. This was
        about 2 weeks ago. It looked pretty interesting, plus or minus
        the differnce in viewpoint of an under-40 male. If no-one has a
        copy I could get the publisher's info from my mother.

| | Just an aside: Frances Lear is the ex-wife of TV producer Norman
    Lear. There was a review of the magazine last week in either the
    Globe or the NY Times, I don't remember which. Sounds interesting

| 764.10 | Ijudged the book by it's ads... | GNUVAX::QUIRIY |  | Wed Mar 30 1988 13:23 | 12 |

    I'd be interested in hearing reader's comments. I read the news
    story too, about Lear's and was interested. I saw a copy on some
    magazine rack in the Maynard area and flipped through it, intending
    to buy a copy, but I was "turned off" by the ads featuring the usual
    anorexic-looking young things. The fashion feature (or features) does
    use older women as models, but the advertisements didn't.

    It's probably not easy to get clothing desginers to hire older women
    to model their creations, but it discouraged me.

| | re: .10 A good friend of mine is a fashion model and she is 56
              years old. More and more fashion designers are hiring
              older models. Also, more designers are hiring "not-so
              thin" models. I guess they are finally waking up to the
              fact that not all of us look like Christy Brinkley. (thank
              goodness).
