697.0. "Need help starting new notesfile for secretaries" by SUPER::HENDRICKS (The only way out is through) Tue Feb 02 1988 13:16

I would like some help from anyone in this conference who is a
secretary, has been a secretary, or has thoughts about being a
    secretary.

With 2 other women, I've started a new notesfile for secretaries
at DEC. I felt there was a need for secretaries to have an opportunity
to create a network with people beyond those they see everyday,
and to share support, ideas, and resources with one another. I've
also heard several wage class 2 women say that the general tone
of this conference (Womannotes) does not always reflect their
    experience, and that concerns me.

I put in 10 basenotes, and Gloria Eno (who has been wonderful in
passing the word) put in another. I am not currently a secretary,
though, and I cannot 'seed' this conference as fully as I have other
conferences I started. As a result of Gloria notifying people,
about 30 secretaries have written to me for information about the
conference and about using notes. I have been sending it to them,
but I would also like there to be many more interesting notes in
the conference before I announce it in Easynet_conferences.

I think that people new to notes are understandably shy about writing
in a new, fairly empty conference.

Since we have some of the most articulate noters in Digital here,
I would like to ask you to add the conference to your notebook and
enter a response or a basenote if you have an interest in this area.

Press keypad 7 to add the DEC_SECRETARY conference to your notebook
if you are willing to help out.

    Thank you.

For those of you who don't like the keypad 7 method, the file spec
    for the new conference is:

    colors::saturn:[tarbet.notes]dec_secretary.note

(yes, it's sharing the disk that womannotes is on, thanks to maggie...)

697.2You could also press SELECTVIKING::TARBETTue Feb 02 1988 13:458
(Well, that ain't quite true...=womannotes= lives on the NOTES pack,
which is where =dec_secretary= will move to just as soon as you
all start writing good stuff to it.)

I hope somebody will advertise =womannotes= in there! I mean, fair's
    fair, right?

A member of our community just wrote to me expressing concern that
creating this new file would be seen as a 'separatist' move, and
that women with secretarial jobs might think that they were being
excluded in some way from Womannotes.

I wanted to take the opportunity to reiterate that the new file
as intended as a job related resource, and has no direct relationship
to Womannotes other than living on the same cluster.

For the record, may I point out that, in my 15 years at Dec, I've
had three male secretaries.

One of them revealed the hitherto well-kept secret that the petty cash
line is a great place to meet interesting women.

I'm not a regular reader of that file, so please post my basenote
    there if you'd like.

When I post it in Easynet_conferences, it should be clear that it's
there for all secretaries, male or female.
