| I like this file a lot. I learn a lot here. I find that it
is an opportunity to to look at a great many issues from another
perspective.
When a noter requests REPLYs from a specific group only, I view
that as another way of saying: "For the sake of argument, let's
assume x." I feel that it allows the discussion to move more
purposefully, with fewer distractions.
I don't understand why people feel threatened by this procedure.
It's just a way of exploring one perspective, and can be used to
explore other perspectives.
Except for the "trashnotes" fiasco and the extreme paranoia shown
by *some* men (did i do that right?) I think this is a great file.

| Gentlemen: Do you see anything different in this Conference
compared to Mennotes? Various subjects/things. Are there some
personal issues/concerns that you might like to discuss in a
Mennotes Member's Only type format? Any other Rules & Restri
ctions, Policy Questions, or such other type ideas?
This might more properly be discussed in Mennotes.
Where do you think such topics can be discussed. Personal mail,
another Conference, where.
["Such topics" referrs to emotionally charged issues.]
Outside of a Dec context.
When you see a "Women Only" type note, do you think such
notes are appropriate for an Equal Access System?
No.

605.5 | MenNotes has lost me! | FDCV13::CALCAGNI | A.F.F.A. | Fri Jan 01 1988 16:34 | 25 |

I was a pretty active follower of Men notes, and sometimes entered
a reply or two, but have since stopped even looking at that file.
Someone entered a topic which I responded to honestly, a little light,
but honestly. I saw nothing wrong with the topic or with the other
replys.
I received a scorching note to the effect that it was in poor taste,
and so on. I've seen the same topic discussed in Women notes among
others which were much stronger.
I enjoy reading Women Notes and I feel this file has a much better
grip on human nature and exhibits truer feelings. I've learn a lot
about women and people in general, at time it's a little long winded,
but written with true convictions.
I think Men notes could learn a lot from this note file. Of course
this is my opinion, and should be taken as that!

| Issues around men do not seem to get the attention that issues around
women get because male issues do not seem as serious. At least
the ones presented in the conference.
If Womannotes were to be a model for Mennotes and men wished to
emulate our style I would encourage them to open up and talk about
sensitive issues.
Another feature of Womannotes that is developing is the time people
are investing in their comments. Many people are reading, researching
and backing up their theories with actual facts and information.
But I do think a conference should reflect the styles of the audience
and I would not want to take away the camaraderie that is present
in many of the discussions.
