600.0. "is the welcome mat still out?" by CIRCUS::KOLLING (Karen, Sweetie, Holly; in Calif.) Wed Dec 16 1987 19:24

While browsing thru old messages in mennotes, I noticed that a previous
men-oriented conference had been deleted. It's not completely clear
from the messages what happened, but apparently there were many
hassling, abusive messages and it just got to be too much. I ask
the few people here who do so much posting of messages like that
to this conference to please think about this. (paranoia: are
they doing this on purpose?) Am I the only one who wishes they
would either keep quiet or go away (preferably the latter, since
I don't think they're capable of the former)?

Thanks for your toughtfulness in entering this note Karen,
but the reason that the other conference was deleted was due
to access problems and disk space as I remember it.
And I hope that everyone still thinks the welcome mat is still
    out here...

well, Gale, that was the *public* reason I was given for the
closing of the file...is the reason that you have hinted
at something you can share with the rest of us?

otherwise I question the point of your answer

    RE: 600.0
No, you are not the only one with those thoughts!!!!!

I recently posted a note in response to a quote of Robserton's that
Planned Parenthood was out to create a master race. I was quoting
from an article that Magaret Sanger had written... The article
used some questionable ethical reasoning that was acceptable in
*her* time among the people who made the laws... And, taken out
of the context of HER TIME, it could be twisted to mean what Robertson
implied. She was using economic reasoning to appeal to the people
    with power in her day...

I had to think very carefully about whether I wanted to post it because
I was worried that anything I said would be grounds to attack Sanger
and then somehow come to negative conclusions about Planned Parenthood,
people who favor the use of birth control, women in this conference who
might defend Sanger, and other ridiculous stuff. I did enter the
article because this is my conference, TOO...

the article raised some possible ethical
questions about how Sanger argued for birth control)
