515.0. "The New WonderWoman" by STUBBI::B_REINKE (where the sidewalk ends) Thu Oct 15 1987 19:42

Have any of you seen the new comic book series about
WonderWoman? I have been buying it for my 10 year old
daughter, but I have to admit that I am reading each
    issue myself.

The story line, and the art work, and best of all the strong
    women characters are just fantastic.

There is one comic book series in particular that I grew fond of
a while ago. Strong women, fighting for what they believe in (kind
of a la the three musketeers, only there's a whole bunch of
them)...unfortunately the series does show men in a rather poor
light sometimes...but the artwork is magnificent!

The series is "Sisterhood of Steel".

Yes, George Perez has done some wonderful things to enhance Wonder
Woman. The writing is also spectacular and allows WW to deal with
many of real life's situations. (Although fighting off lusting
gods might not be considered real life - but then again.....)

"Sisterhood of Steel" has since been cancelled due to lack of sales,
but a new graphic novel with a new story just came out not too long
ago. You can find it at just about any comics book shop.

WONDER WOMAN was, for decades, pretty much of a joke as far as
comics go. The publisher, DC, kept it around only for the
licensing benefits. But the new incarnation is indeed wonderful
stuff. It's very feminist without being stridently so. The
character as she is presented now is a wonderful role model
for young girls. It's rather amazing that it's written/drawn
by a man (though it should be noted that the editor of the comic
    is a woman).

Incidentally, some years back, a hardcover collection of early
Wonder Woman stories (from the 40's) was co-published by MS.
    MAGAZINE.

I, too, am thoroughly enjoying Wonder Woman. It may be the best
comic being put out by either of the two major companies (DC and
Marvel). They've done a good job at tying in to a more accurate
mythology than the earlier Greko-Roman mishmash, and the
character is very strong and very interesting. I did think the
first half-dozen issues were better than the more recent ones,
but it is still quite strong.

Sisterhood of Steel was pretty good, though not nearly as well
written or drawn, to my eye at least. I bought all the issues of
it in the original comic book run, but I haven't picked up the
graphic novel. I guess the story had warn a little thin for me.

515.5Where can I get a copy?EDUHCI::WARRENTue Oct 27 1987 16:189
Is there someone (publisher, etc.) that we can write to to say "keep
up the good work"? There are so few examples of good, nonsexist
literature for kids that it seems appropriate to acknowledge the
    good stuff?

515.6Comics have letter columns...HPSCAD::WALLI see the middle kingdom...Wed Oct 28 1987 10:1310

If you pick up an issue, it will almost certainly have a letter
column in the back. The address on the letter column is the best
place to direct praise or pans for a comic.

Barring that, the address of the publisher is easily located inside
the book. For Wonder Woman, the publisher is DC Comics. I believe
they are at 666 Fifth Avenue, but snag an issue to be sure.
