485.0. "Women's Reading Group" by GIGI::TRACY () Tue Sep 22 1987 17:58

    I am interested in forming a "women's literature" reading group
    in the Worcester area.

    At this point, it is just an idea but I thought it could be modeled
    after such a group that an acquaintance belongs to in the Framingham
    area.

    I believe she said they have 12 members, though only about 3/4
    of them make it to any one meeting. The meetings are held once
    a month and the members take turns hosting it (i.e., they provide
    the house/apt. and refreshments). This group eventually decided to
    hire a local professor to lead the discussion. They found it was too
    easy to go off track otherwise and have found the cost to be
    worthwhile.

    They are "assigned" one book each month to read, and the books vary
    from novels to plays to poetry, from current best-sellers to bona
    fide classics. What they have in common is that they provide plenty
    of material for discussion--about the content in general and about
    the portrayal of women in general.

    Irene said she always finds the discussion stimulating and fun.
    This group has been together for years, and I have the book list
    they've developed over that time.

    If there is any interest, please let me know.

    Yes, I'm interested. Sounds like fun. I love to read, but I find
    too many excuses not to take the time.

485.3Another women's reading group. VAXUUM::CORMANThu Sep 24 1987 19:3910
    Up here in Nashua, we've also recently started a women's reading
    group (developed through our local networking group, the Nashua
    Women's Network.) I would be interested to see your reading list,
    if you wouldn't mind sharing it. (Send it through mail if you don't
    want to post it here.)

    Any women in the greater Nashua (New Hampshire) area that are
    interested in the reading group, get in touch with me for more
    information.

    Is this note still active? Is the reading group active? Is there
    any room left?

    (I tried replying to GIGI::TRACY, but didn't succeed.)
