    There is a new bill that is trying to get through the Mass. state
    legislature.  (I called my rep. about it last night and he wasn't
    concerned, but I am!)
    
    The bill would add a 1.5% payroll tax to all of us (or maybe I should
    say it would subtract an additional 1.5% from us all!) for the purpose
    of providing paid maternity leave for both mothers and fathers.
    I don't remember the exact details but something like 65% of salary
    for 16-18 weeks was discussed.
    
    I have heard this twice (on TV news reports) - it is not an April
    Fools joke, unfortunately.
    
    By now you can all tell that I don't want to pay this additional
    tax on top of all the other high Mass. taxes.  If I wanted to live
    in a socialist state I could always move to Sweden and pay their
    taxes!  Anyway, CALL YOUR STATE REPS ABOUT THIS ONE, however you
    feel.
