a tuition fee.
Checks should be made out to the Women's School. Donations are tax

planning to attend. All events (except as noted) will be at the Women's
Center, 46 Pleasant St., Cambridge (Red-line to Central Square).

Writer's Support Group -- Ongoing, Wednesdays, 7:30-9:30pm
This open, ongoing support group provides a time to share your writing,
exchange ideas and criticism from a feminist perspective, and discuss issues
such as getting started, getting published, and writer's block. All
skill/experience levels and forms of writing are welcome. All you need is a
commitment to writing and to participating regularly in the group.

Fear and Loathing of the GREs April 6 - June 1, 7-9pm
Designed to establish a strong support system for effective study habits by
developing a personal study schedule with optional contractual agreements, and
by learning strategies in preparing for standardized tests. We will also
discuss Test Anxiety, Math Anxiety, and Procrastination as these apply to
women.

Demystifying Computers for the Technically Shy April 7 - May 19, 7-9pm
Computers are useful to us and we can learn to use them. They are not just
for men. This course will help women to learn how to work with computers as a
tool to help them in their lives, paid work, and community work. Emphasis
will be placed on actual experience with the Women's Center computer and
possibly one other system. (Limited to 6 women.)

Women and Comedy: How Funny Can You Get? April 7 - May 19, 7-9pm
Besides being entertaining, humor can educate and spark debate. In this
series of 7 workshops, we will use improv, plays, and other materials to
explore the limits of humor. You will have the opportunity to perform
individually or as part of a group. We'll explore comedy from the perspective
of women speaking about women, to other women. If possible, we will have some
guest speakers come talk to us about comedy and the business of performing.
When we've had some practice, we can "take our show on the road" into the
wider community. How funny can you get? Come and find out!

Straight Talk About Heterosexual Feminist April 8, 7-9pm
Heterosexual and bisexual women sometimes find that their issues are not
addressed in the women's community. This workshop will provide a place to
discuss these issues and possibilities for change. Open to women who do not
currently identify as Lesbians.

Healing Our Womanselves April 9 - May 21, 7:30-9:30pm
Have you ever wondered about the power/energy flowing through you during your
period? And how to use it effectively and comfortably? This 7-week class
will explore and reclaim our menstrual cycle in all its aspects, especially
the spiritual. We'll discuss the importance of dreams, rediscover
woman-centered myths, and use guided imagery and ritual-making hopefully
leading to an outdoor Full Moon Ritual in May. Each class builds on the one
before, pleas commit yourself to the full 7 weeks.

Getting the Word Out: Promotions for Non-Profits April 9 7:30-9:30pm
This introductory workshop offers a step-by-step approach to developing a
promotional strategy. We will discuss how to identify your audience, image,
and available resources, as well as how to select appropriate promotional
strategies and tools to achieve your goal. Bring any existing materials about
your group and product.

Dreams and Fantasies: The Creative Healer Within April 11, 1-4pm
An experiential workshop that will include guided fantasy and an opportunity
to learn and practice techniques for uncovering the power in our dreams and
ways of bringing that power to our everyday lives.

Making It In the Workworld: Overcoming Workplace Politics April 11 2-4:30pm
This is for women currently employed or looking for a new, sustaining work
situation. Through discussion and sharing our workplace stories, we will
identify and work on those factors that interfere with our satisfaction with
our jobs. We spend a lot of our time working -- we should feel better about
it than most of us do.

Lesbian Writers: Between Two Worlds April 18, 11am-1pm
In this workshop we will address issues that affect us as Lesbians and as
writers, such as censoring ourselves, our reasons for writing, and making
connections among our worlds. We will also discuss our role modes as writers
and how the many facets of our lives find their way into our writing.

Women and Science Fiction April 21 7-9pm
What is feminist science fiction? How can we recognize it when we see it?
What part can it play in helping build a feminist culture? Come and discuss
these questions and more. Please be familiar with the following stories; they
will provide the basis for much of our discussion: "Whileaway," by Joanna
Russ, "The Day Before the Revolution," by Ursula LeGuin, "The Woman Who Loved
the Moon," by Elizabeth Lynn, "Tin Soldier," by Joan D. Vinge. Some of these
stories can be found in the anthologies: Women of Wonder, More Women of
Wonder, Amazons!, and Amazons II.

Basic Bookkeeping Skills for the Self-Employed April 22, 29, May 20; 7-9pm
(3 meetings, no class May 6 & 13)
This course will help you organize and use financial information. We will
cover 3 basic areas: 1. recording income and expenses; 2. balancing a checking
account; 3. starting an accounting system; definition of terms and preparing a
balance sheet.
You will have the opportunity to set up basic income and expense records,
balance one month of your own checking account, and write up a balance sheet
for your business. The course is useful for personal finances as well as new
and established businesses.

People Needing People April 25, 2-4:30pm
Families, friends, lovers... Who are the important people in your life and
what sorts of relationships do you have with them? How do you handle
disappointment and conflict, develop trust, nurture each other through the
hard times, and celebrate intimacy? We will examine the relationships we
have, reflect upon the art of giving and receiving, and attempt to clarify how
we can get what we need from the people available in our lives.

Writing In Our Own Voices April 25, May 2 and 9; 10am-12:30pm
(Each week builds on the next)
Bring a piece of your own or another's own story to share -- any form, prose
or poetry -- or write one up in the workshop. Within a free-flowing
structure, construct a new piece of writing in your choice of style.
Come early to find our space. Wear comfortable clothing (we will start with
light activity) and bring paper, writing implements, and anything else that
makes you feel ready to write. For any woman who wants to write wherever you
are in writing.

Women and AIDS April 28, 7:30-9:30pm
A presentation with discussion covering the history of AIDS, transmission,
risk reduction, and AIDS testing. Emphasis will be on women -- clarifying the
ways in which we can contract AIDS, how to protect ourselves, and ways in
which children are at risk.
Women of all sexual preferences are encouraged to attend. There will be lots
of time for questions and dialogue.

Discussing the Unmentionable -- Urinary Incontinence May 2, 2-4pm
This workshop will describe the social and physical causes of various kinds of
urinary incontinence in older women. We will discuss what we can do to
prevent and manage it.

Sun Tides/Moon Tides: Cycles of Life May 2, 2-4:30pm
Workshop experience focusing on the symbolism of nature -- the changing
seasonal energies, solstice and equinox rhythms, phases of the moon, and
astrological challenges experienced in women's lives. Through an examination
of symbolism of nature we will clarify our relationship to the larger patterns
of life. The workshop will close with a group ritual co-created by
participants to celebrate our current energies.

"Our Boston Heritage" -- Lesbian history slideshow and discussion May 8,
8-10pm
We will explore issues in reclaiming our lesbian history and discuss themes
and possible group and/or individual projects, or just relax and enjoy the
slideshow.

Women's Storytelling: Telling the Story of Our Lives May 9 & 16, 11am-1pm
This is a participatory workshop, a chance to hear and tell stories from our
own lives. In our first session, we will talk about the tradition of women as
storytellers and as carriers of the culture, using examples from our own lives
and other women we've known. In our second session, we will share our
stories, making them up or telling it just like it happened.

cR.A.S.h course: A workshop with Rock Against Sexism May 9, 1-4pm at
FemmeCore Space, 464 Harrison Ave. (near Dover Station on Boston's Orange
Line)
During the first half of the afternoon, we will listen to rock'n'roll (both
the good and the bad stuff), examine lyrics and discuss the issues suggested
by the music and you, such as: can one be a feminist and still like
rock'n'roll? Do sexist lyrics create sexist culture or reflect it? Can
political music be a force for positive change? Can women's music be hard,
fast, and angry? Etc.
The second part of the workshop will provide hands-on time with electric
instruments, drums, amplifiers, effects pedals, mikes, basic set-up and space
to make loud, unlady-like sounds. As a group we'll put together some simple
chords, write some lyrics, and maybe come away with our very own song!
Beginners are very welcome. Meet at the Women's Center at 12:30pm to pool

A Self-Defense Workshop For Women Over 40 May 12 7-9:30pm
We will explore physical and verbal self-defense techniques and the politics
of self-defense. We will look at self-image and individual limitations, and
use of intuition to avoid physical confrontation. Dress comfortably.

The Writing on the Wall -- Women's Graffiti slideshow and discussion May 15,
8-10pm
This workshop will focus on local graffiti as it relates to girls and women.
Through slides, we will view the political graffiti women are writing in
response to the situations in South Africa, Central America, and at home.
