    Hi!, right after this I will try to introduce myself in the "men's
    introduction" file. You can tell I'm a first time "noter" I don't
    even have the lingo down yet, have patience I'll get there.
    
    Which brings me to the point of this note. Some years ago I read,
    meticulously and copiously works by the (then) leading proponents
    of "the womens' movement". I attended debates, watched appropriate
    T.V. programs and generally "boned up" on the subject. My motivation
    was to become aware, sensitive and understanding about "feminine"
    issues.
    
    My fear is the above language accurately reflects where I was comming
    from. It was an academic exercise at best. Certainly I find that
    I am nowhere near as sensitive and believing as I proclaimed and
    that is placing any worthwhile relationships with women in jeapordy,
    within or outside the workplace.
    
    My learning style is one of involvement rather than book study,
    interactive debate rather than attending lectures, dealing with
    specfic examples rather than generalities. I recognize those
    preferences may be blocks to learning.
    
    Any advice on where I might find forums (in addition to this one)
    that provide for growth?.
    
    

    If you're not any sort of minority at all, you can get some feel
    of what it's like to be a woman in a patriarchal world by getting
    involved in other minorities (black, oriental, hispanic, illiterate,
    gay/lesbian, handicapped). There are *tons* of volunteer organizations
    dying for help (including some feminist organizations mentioned
    elsewhere in this notes file).

    Girl Scouting or Campfire Girls, Big Sisters, or similar programs
    that ask for voluteer support for young people would be good.

    Thank you .1 & .2 for you responses. I'm not sure those will provide
    the kind of intensive accelerated learning I need but your thoughts
    are appreciated.
