239.0. "Another Party?" by STUBBI::B_REINKE (the fire and the rose are one) Wed Mar 18 1987 14:55

Well as I have being saying all day - Friday is the first
day of spring. Last February at the Womannotes get together
we talked about having a spring party, so since it is nearly
spring, perhaps we can start planning. Leslie Smith is
willing to offer her place again but not until after June 12th.
If anyone else wants to offer a location it could be earlier.
    Bonnie
(was that me I heard saying that I wasn't going to do the planning
    again....naw, couldn't have been :-) )

239.3coming up on our first birthdayHARDY::HENDRICKSWed Apr 01 1987 08:439
Womannotes' first birthday is fast approaching, if the date of note
1.1 is the one to go by.

Although April 18 falls on a Saturday this year, it occurred to
me that we might find a way to celebrate!

If people are interested, it might be fun to plan some get togethers
in different areas for lunch or dinner on the 17th -- or thereabouts.
Any interest in something like this?

That sounds like a great idea, Holly. Would anyone want to
come as far west as the Searstown Mall in Leominster - that is
about as far east as I can go on my lunch hour and there is
a very nice Chineses restaurant there.

I can't possibly make Acton unless I take a vacation day and I *like*
the buffet at Chopsticks. I'm planning on going to lunch at Chopsticks
on Friday April 17th at 12:00 and will be glad to call ahead for
reservations for as many people as drop me e-mail that they are coming.

Someone further east or north should volunteer for Mahaka or
some other place. (and maybe Suzanne can raise a solitary toast
    from Colorado...)

Then by all means let me know what you had and I will
discuss it with the owners. They have chefs that
shift between the Worcester and Leominster locations
and it might help narrow down who's cooking. Chopsticks
has some of the finest Chinese i've had since I dined
at a little place in Osaka, Japan that served Northern
Chinese cuisine and i'd hate to have someone swayed
    by a bad experience.

They have been flexible in the past by hosting short notice
parties for me and the food has been superb, perhaps this
    was an exception?

I'd like to make a polite reminder [to whomever is

Mike makes a good point - the 17th is also Good Friday.
I think this particular get together ought to be more
    of a populist enterprise.....
I've volunteered to make reservations on the 17th at Chopsti.
I hope that someone else will do the same for some other
restaurant(s) and post that here - and for anyone that finds
that this interferes with their religious observances but would
still like to do something to celebrate womannotes being 1 year
old perhaps they could suggest an alternate date and place...
I don't think this has to be a just one place or just one time
    sort of thing.

    Bonnie
239.15HARDY::HENDRICKSThu Apr 02 1987 08:4911
I agree with Bonnie--I had originally envisioned several groups
of womannoters getting together at different places. I will join
you at Chopsticks on the 17th at 12:00.

If anyone else would like to suggest something that doesn't conflict
with their observance of traditional holidays, I will join you for
    that as well, distance permitting.

Have all of you Colorado people considered organizing something?
Carol was out here for training recently, and she was one of the
most enjoyable people I've met in a long time!

Re .17, would anybody like to get together in the Maynard-Marlboro
area? Leominster is just too far to go for lunch from Maynard
(especially when you're not a WC 4 and have to watch the time).

By the way, I think the Chopsticks in Webster Sq., Worcester, has
the best Chinese food I've ever had. But, I've never eaten at the
    Leominster one.

The restaurant is the Makaha (not Mahaka), on Rt 2A in
Acton and is strictly of the Polynesian variety.
For those of you fond of Mandarin/Szechuan there
isn't a Peking ravioli or a moo shi pancake in sight.

	    April 17th
    Or
	    April 24th

as it stands right now -

I am going to make reservations for x number of people for
lunch at chopsticks on the 17th of April - Friday.

anybody that can make it out here let me know in time (by
Thursday morning?) that they are coming so I can make a
    reservation.

A lot of people have said that they want to meet for lunch
in Maynard. Could one Maynard or further east person just
pick a place and pick a time? It's not that hard to do -
and I was a little reluctant to step out on a limb and try
and organize something out here - all it takes is one person
willing to 1. keep a list and 2. call for reservations.....

or the third choice is Michael Mahler's idea of a dinner at
    Chopsticks...

anyone wanting to go to chopsticks for dinner either night
    should contact Mike....

    is this reasonably straightened out?

What is a party which is in the spirit of sexcetera?

Or should I use my imagination; no, better not do that, am in enough
trouble already.

239.33Lunch updates?STUBBI::B_REINKEthe fire and the rose are oneFri Apr 10 1987 21:4521
This note has gotten kind of side tracked this past week with
    all the other issues....

Right now the only publically announced lunch is the one for which
I have taken the responsibility for calling in the reservations.
Right now I think that there are 5 people meeting me at Chopsticks.

Is anyone else collection names or planning anything?

Also Mike Mahler had volunteered to host a dinner either the 17th
or the 24th, Mike would you update on what is happening with that?

A couple of people have mentioned locations but never gone any further
is there anything currently planned in Maynard or any where else.

I would again say that it doesn't take any special courage or
talent to just say "I'll call the restaurant, send me mail if you
want to meet at place X at time Y."

The funniest part of it was arriving and not knowing who to ask
for or look for. I overheard someone (turned out to be Leslie)
asking for the Womannotes party, and together we looked around for
a likely bunch. We saw two women sitting alone at a big table and
said, "um, are you here for Womannotes?". They obviously weren't
because they stared at us like we were saying something unintelligible!

We found the group. Bonnie had had the good sense to make us all
nametags, so we quickly matched names and faces. It was wonderful
to see and talk with people whom I felt I knew! Kind of like meeting
    your pen pal.

I'm looking forward to the party and meeting many more of you.
If any of you non-Massachusetts people are going to be out this
way, let us know and perhaps we can organize a lunch around your
    visit.

239.40Its Party Time!!DECSIM::LTSMITHLeslieWed Apr 22 1987 00:3230
Yes, its time to schedule another party, where we can get lots more of us
to attend. (You'd be amazed how everyone turns out to be sooooo human. ;-))

We're going to do a barbeque this time at our house in Harvard. People are
encouraged to bring their burger or hotdogs for themselves and a side dish
to share. Drinks are BYO. Ice, cups, plates, plastic utensils will be
  provided.

So you ask, what's the day? Well, my calendar is not being very
cooperative. We were aiming for the end of June, but I'll be returning
from the National SWE Convention in Kansas City.

Next available Friday is July 10. Come after work. Doors open at 5:30.
Feel free to bring your SO, a friend, or by yourself. The snow is gone, so
parking will be much easier, and less cramped.

At the luncheon, I was asked if children were welcome. (No flames please)
My response was, our house is not kid-proofed. Parents are welcome to
bring their children if they watch them. I suspect we'll spend most of the
time outside, so probably will be just fine.

And if we have another summer like last year, raindate will be July 17.
And any postponement will be announced as a reply to this base note.

As the time gets closer we'll try to generate a list of attendees so that
maps to Harvard can be sent out electronically. Watch this space....

So reserve July 10, and let's tie faces to usernames!!
