Thought there might be some interest in an article that's in the
February issue of Scientific American: "Marriage, Motherhood and
Research Performance in Science".
It's basically the results of the authors' survey of American
Scientists (both sexes were surveyed), which was designed to detect any
difference in scientific productivity (*) that correlated to either
marriage or parenthood. For those who aren't big S.A. fans, I'll tell
you they didn't find a difference of any size - but if you're
especially interested in the topic you should read the article. I can't
think of any reason that the findings would be different for
non-science professionals.
BTW, the issue on the stands now is probably the March one (it takes me
a looong time to read an issue :-), so check your favorite library.
