| What DIGITAL health benefits do you have?
Do you have a gender preference in doctors?
Sanders Burstein (Matthew Thorton HMO 673-2515) in the Milford Matthew Thorton
office has been a very good doctor.
Both Lisa, who is somewhat sensitive to gender in medicine, and I have felt
comfortable with him on some fairly delicate matters. I don't know if he
has any experience with Candida (sp?) but on at least one occasion has
recommended a specialist who whom we were satisfied.

| I also am fairly new to this notes file. I know of a very good Doctor
who is quite successful in treating Candida patients. He is a
Naturopath and his wife an MD. Together they have founded an Wholistic
Health Clinic in Brighton Mass. He does a lot with diet for Candida.
He is Barry Taylor and his clinic is the New England Family Health
Center in Brighton Mass. (617)254-7700. John Hancock Insurance
covers treatment there. I began working with him 18 month ago
and was able eliminate severe PMS symptoms that had been an issure for
for most of my adult life.
If you want more information please feel free to send me mail or
to call me or the Center.

| The Yeast Connection is a very good book on the subject. You can
find it in most health food stores.

| A friend of mine who is a professional nutritionist told me that
the Society for Clinical Ecology (you could find the address at
the library with the help of a good reference librarian) publishes
a list each year of practitioners who are skilled in candida albicans
treatment as well as treatment of other environmentally oriented
syndromes. They also publish a professional journal, Journal of
Clinical Ecology which might have some useful articles for you.
My friend has a nutritional bibliographic research business, and
if you want, send me mail, and I will try to get some abstracts of
articles on candida which she has written. Include your mailing
address, ok?

What other symptoms do you have?

92.7 | "It won't hurt........ much!" | NEBVAX::BELFORTE | | Fri Sep 26 1986 13:31 | 29 |
| My Dr. was the one who diagnosed it, with a simple little blood
test (pin prick in the finger). I had been gaining weight, and
retaining lots of fluid (constant swelling of the ankles and hands),
my stomach was always a little upset, headaches (off and on, for
no apparent reason),CONSTANT fatigue (it didn't matter if I got
1 hour of sleep or slept round the clock, I was always *dead*),
drastic mood changes........ I could go on, but it would take me
all day! He suggested I have the test done, and when the tech.
took the drop of blood she told me to watch the video camera. She
told me that what they were looking for was red blood cells that
where nice and round (uniform in size), white bllod cells that where
elongated and moving (looks like they are splitting) and in the
background what looks like clouds. Oh yes, in the "frame" of the
picture there should only be 1-3 white blood cells at the normal
level. The clouds indicate Candida, the rest indicated normal blood.
As soon as the picture came up on the screen, I (the untrained person)
said, "Oh look, there are the clouds right there, and there, and
there, and............" Plus there where about 8-12 white cells,
indicating they where working on trying to fight the infection.
My regular Dr. had never heard of Candida, and when I told him I
had it he did some research and agreed with my other Dr.. The Dr.
who diagnosed it was my Chiropractor (pretty smart guy, huh??)
When I left Colorado, I checked with both Dr.'s to see if they knew
anyone out here, and they didn't. That's why I'm seeking your help!
Any more questions, feel free to ask!!! Drop me a line, or give
me a call 264-8192, or ask here for everyone else to see.

Do only women get this problem, or can men get it too?
Jane.

92.9 | Both, but not as easily for men. | NEBVAX::BELFORTE | | Fri Sep 26 1986 17:24 | 9 |
| It is mostly women, but there have been cases of men with this.
The scary thing is they are just finding out that about 85% of most
women's maladies can be directly linked to Candida. It makes me
wonder of the hysterectomy I had 5 yrs. ago was really what I needed,
because I still get the same "pains", and most of the same symptoms
I had before the surgery (of course no Dr. is going to say it was
unnecessary at this point in the game, it's too late).

| Check with your local health food stores. I'm pretty sure that
the Nutrition House in Manchester NH (S. Willow Street) could
put you in touch with a support group, and I think other stores
could also steer you to a group, maybe closer to where you're
located.
