38.0. "An advertisement you might find interesting" by REX::MINOW (Martin Minow, DECtalk Engineering) Thu Jul 03 1986 10:31

A 1/3 page ad which appeared in the major French newspaper Le Monde,
was directed specifically at women. My French is pretty rusty, so
I apologize for any errors in the translation.

		Women, Tell Us Why...

you are only 2 of every 100 applicants when we offer jobs as Commercial
Engineers in the newspapers?

How, in these conditions, can we reach a better response to our efforts?

That's our wish -- and it's not out of disintrest that we want you
to find Digital remarkable.

It's without a doubt our favorable sales environment! We have a
good image, a large supply of good products and quality services....

You will become "professionals" at selling information systems!
Take contact with us... Positions are available in Paris and
in the provinces.

Sounds like someone in Evry is trying to fight the good
battle... Unfortunately, my experience with DEC in France would
indicate that any women hired won't get the good deal that's being
promised. France is still a very sexist country and the Decies in
France don't seem to be much better then the average for this part
    of the world.

It would be interesting to see if the percentage of women applying
for those jobs improved after that ad appeared? Anyone have any
    further info?
