    I'm sure his intentions were good, at least.
27.4Petition Time?VAXUUM::DYERIceberg or volcano?Thu May 15 1986 11:244
	    Does anybody feel like drafting up a statement or something
	to tell KO how we feel about this? (And about the "women be-
	long at home" philosophy of daycare that he's said to have?)

27.5More fuel for the fireJELLO::MCDONOUGHThu May 15 1986 15:096
    Not to mention that when Ken spoke at IDECUS he told an imaginary
    story about a "girl" who started a boutique and had no idea how
    to run a business. All the girl was interested in was having a
    car to match her lifestyle.

    That really frosted a good percent of his audience.
27.6I missed something, I can tell..FURILO::BLINNDr. Tom @MROThu May 15 1986 23:324
        Gee, sorry I missed 27.0. Glad I missed Ken's talk at IDECUS,
        though. I suspect I would have been frosted.

27.7so how do we 'fix' this?CAD::LTSMITHLeslieFri May 16 1986 21:2117
  Have to agree with the base note and replies here!!!!! Is there any way to
  feedback our displeasure in a constructive way?

  BTW, how many of your personnel reps or the people who sort out
  personnel problems read this conference? Might be worth a suggestion
  next time you run into one -- male or female.

  And does anyone know of statistics about how many professional women
  work for Digital at which levels in which organizations? Fighting those
  kinds of statements with facts is often the best method. (and no, I'm
  not trying to ignore the contributions of the non-professionals at DEC.
  Please, no flames on this one. :-) )

27.9Population statistics would be interestingODIXIE::VICKERSDonSun May 18 1986 03:3910
    Re: .7

    Personnel is required by law to report to the EEOC the number of
    women at various levels within the company.

    I have no idea whether personnel would be willing to release that
    information or whether it is available through the EEOC.

    I suspect that Digital has good numbers relative to professional
    women but a bit weak in terms of middle to upper management.

        re .8

        Sending Mail to Ken Olsen is notr alsways the solution to a
        problem. It is like trying to ring Ronnie Raygun to tell him
        you don't like the attitude of Public Servants. You are most
        likely to get a "huh!" and more likely to get a blast from the
        top down to the person who should be handling the issue. They
        will, of course, get very snakey when something that should be
        addressed bottom-up actual happens as a flame from the top.

	    [RE .10]: You may have missed the (now deleted) base note.
	The issue at hand is remarks made by KO himself that were de-
	grading to women.
