22.0. "24 Hour Cool Off Period Please" by CAD::LTSMITH (Leslie) Tue May 13 1986 11:16

Well, I'll give another try. There have been many good notes in
this conference about how to structure notes and replies to minimize
misunderstandings, flames, hurt feelings, etc. At the risk of having
another suggestion muddy things up still further, here's my suggestion:

If a note or reply prompts you to flame, please wait 24 hours before
replying. During this time, think about the note, try to put yourself
in the writers shoes, try to hypothesize why the individual feels
the way they do. Don't worry, there is plenty of room for everyone's
    view to be heard.

Maybe if we *all* try to follow this suggestion, this conference
will constructively take on the serious topics which really need
looking at, and minimize the flight of participants who are scared
    off.

Leslie, this is an excellent idea. On more than one occasion,
I've found that if I wait a day or two before replying, I've
had a chance to sort out my feelings and ideas, and I manage
to write a better response (I also am less likely to be tempted
to come back and delete what I've written).

On at least one occasion, when I've come back, there are some
well-thought-out replies that express part of what I was feeling.
Then, I either don't have to reply, or can expand on what has
        been said.

        Thanks for the idea!

        Tom
