158.0. "Extensible Markup Language, XML" by VMSNET::S_VORE (Smile - Mickey's Watching!) Thu Feb 20 1997 14:07

    [I know nothing abou this other than what you read here; it was part of
    this morning's news -Sjv]

    *** 'Extensible HTML' available for web publishing

    The Graphic Communications Association and its Information
    Technologies division announced Wednesday its support for XML--a new,
    extensible "HTML" to support emerging web publishing requirements.
    Extensible Markup Language, XML, is a simple dialect of SGML. But XML
    is different from HTML in that it is extensible. This means that web
    publishers can either extend HTML by adding their own tags, or can
    create their own descriptive tag sets. For the full text story, see

    I had the same thoughts as .1. Glad I'm not the only one. ;-)

    is the place to go for what is supposed to be the latest XML working
    draft. I haven't had time to look at it yet.

    Is it too early to start writing a book on the subject? ;-)

    I was thinking more along the lines of, "Learn XML 1.0 in 21 days"

    We laugh, but I'll bet someone's doing it. And will make a bundle of
    money on it, too.
