647.0. "bootdef_dev list not being used" by CSC32::M_JILSON (Door handle to door handle) Tue Jun 03 1997 17:12

Customer has an Alphaserver 4000 Console V4.8-6 where bootdef_dev is set to
dua320.0.0.5.0,dua320.1.0.5.0,dua420.0.0.5.0,dua420.1.0.5.0
He claims that if the system disk is not the first entry ie shadow set has
been failed over to HSJ1 when the system boots it will not get past the first
entry. It will just repeat trying the first entry and eventually timeout
back to the console prompt. These are RZ29s off HSJ50 w/ HSOF V5.0 and a
CIPCA.

I am presently attempting to get a copy of the console output when this
happens.

Any ideas?

647.1Worked for me, but didn't try CIPCAMAY30::CUMMINSTue Jun 03 1997 18:02158
    I just tried this on my proto running V4.8-6. Unfortunately, I don't
    have a CIPCA right now.. But I did try an MSCP device (KFPSA) and it
    worked okay for me. Log attached. Please send me the log from the
    customer. Thanks, BC

647.2Works with CIPCA (and V4.8-7 console) as well..HARMNY::CUMMINSWed Jun 04 1997 10:53158
    One of our qual sites just verified that V4.8-7 console fails over
    during booting with a CIPCA + HSJ50s config.. V4.8-7 is one or two
    unrelated changes removed from V4.8-6, so V4.8-6 should behave the
    same way.

	Bill,

	Steve has tried this on our Complex Systems Test environment cluster
	using Rawhide (Jafrey) w/cipca to HSJ50s. It works here - see
	attached.

The boot device list works for me...

Jafrey boots from DUA703 on HSJ01(node 19) and HSJ03(node 27).

DUA703 is a 4 member stripe set.

in the following console output, the disk is being served
by HSJ03 (27)... the boot list calls for hsj01(19) first, then
fails over to the second controller, hsj03(27)...
