A customer is doing a "features" chart comparing our 4100 runing Windows NT to some competitive boxes. One question is: Can the system automatically dial-out to a centalized diagnostic facility in the event of a system failure and initiate a service call without manual intervention ? I know that the RCM can initiate a pager call in the event of a power failure, but that's not what they're asking for. They want Col Springs called by the system if a disk drive fails, the system crashes, it gets a memory parity error, etc. I remember we used to offer a capability like this for VAXen (was it called MDM - MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor ?) that would call the CSC if a system failed. It's unclear if we still offer a similar capability (thru PCM or some other product) that will address this. Thanks Arlan

This can be arranged for with pricey software and a management station. BMC Patrol and Curasoft come to mind, but SERVERWORKS might be able to handle it too, with some work. In any case you will need some form of SNMP Management Tool configured to handle alerts by pager, or whatever. MDM was just this: a set of bootable media that could be used to load a simple "monitor" to run a set of low level hardware diagnostics. You are probably thinking of VAXsimPLUS (now DECevent?) |
