| SHOW SYS_SERIAL_NUM at the SRM console prompt gives the SW copy of the
serial number, provided MFG entered it properly when the system was
built/shipped. The data is stored in a 256-byte IIC NVRAM part on the
system motherboard. Therefore, swapping out a motherboard requires the
user to reset this EV via console if the original system serial number
is desired.

The system serial number on a DIGITAL system is normally on a sticker
on the back of the box, often near the power tap or I/O bulkhead.
The AlphaServer 4100 power design is rather odd -- the power tap is
on the front of the box on this system -- so look at the back of the
box near the I/O panel. The sticker usually has the model number,
the system serial number (NI, for Salem systems), and a barcode.
The PWS/PWSa/PWSau (Miata and MX5) series platforms are really odd --
manufacturing has been placing the serial number sticker on the BOTTOM
of the box. (Very few folks think to look there...)
